The wealthy already pay more taxes than the average Joe and people think it's still not enough. Apparently Liberals [ or Democratic Socialists ] never learn that if you start raising taxes, those who will be hit the hardest just pack up and leave, taking their money with them.
The top 3 states that have the most outbound migration are Illinois, California and New York. What do they all have in common ? Well, first of all they're run by Democrats, the 2nd is high taxes that just keep getting higher.
The people and companies that can afford to move WILL move and take their money with them. It's already happening and it's just going to get worse, with the end result being a heavier burden on those who can't get out.
Again, Hochel had better think twice whether or not to protect the rich.
"A recent poll commissioned by the Invest in Our New York Campaign and conducted by Siena College Research Institute found that 74% of New Yorkers support raising taxes on the wealthiest earners to fund public programs. The poll, released in January 2024, showed that 72% of upstate residents and 74% of state residents overall believe higher taxes on the rich should be used to address budget shortfalls rather than cutting public services.
Further support was seen across political lines: 64% of respondents said they would favor a political candidate who supports higher taxes on the wealthy, compared to only 27% who would back a candidate advocating for spending cuts. The poll also found that 71% of voters specifically favor taxing big corporations and the top 5% of earners to fund housing, transit, and universal childcare"

The people have spoken and Hochel had better listen good.

The issue is that he is going to raise taxes on anyone, and raid several public funds, to pay for his communist ideas that benefit nobody. Anyone and everyone could see the writing on the wall that the rich would leave NYC as soon as he got elected and the burden would fall onto the rest of the citizens to cover the bill.
If the average NYC citizen had one shred of common sense, they would have seen that before he got elected and chose someone else. But, because it was someone else paying the bill, they were all so eager to gorge themselves on free stuff. And now that they are the ones going to have to pay that bill, I bet none of them are too happy.
The free stuff is working in other states, Mamdani is just trying to do what works for other cities and where other cities citizens keep extending those programs because that is what the people want and need.
Hochel and he need to find the gap of money somewhere and seeing as Mamdani is hiring many auditors to look at the mess of a budget left to him from previous mayors, let's see how much waste of money can be found.

It may be working in other states because they brought it in after they had a balanced budget, not promise it for months and then decide we have to tax you mor because I am pushing us further into a $5.4 billion dollar deficit.
Hiring auditors and further defunding the NYPD, such a brilliant way to make NYC a better place......

You are speculating with no evidence that any of what you say is based in reality.

The people have spoken and Hochel had better listen good.
Then get ready to wave bye bye to all that tax money and Hochul can say goodbye to all those campaign donations. The average Joe ain't the ones financing her campaigns.
You still just don't get it, do you ? It doesn't make a damn bit of difference what "the people" want.
You tax the rich and the rich leave. That's as plain as I can make it. The fact that it's already happening and HAS BEEN happening seems to escape you.

Quote:Recent migration trends confirm the damage. More than 125,000 New Yorkers have fled to Florida in just the past few years, carrying nearly $14 billion worth of income with them, according to the Citizens Budget Commission. About a third of those movers — more than 41,000 people — went to Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward Counties between 2018 and 2022. Those escapes alone stripped New York City of an estimated $10 billion in adjusted gross income. When money and mobility align, no amount of political rhetoric can stop people from voting with their feet.
Into this fragile situation steps Zohran Mamdani, whose mayoral primary victory has been accompanied by a platform that includes a new “millionaire’s tax.” His proposal would tack on an additional two-percent levy for New Yorkers earning more than $1 million a year, raising the combined city and state top rate to 16.776 percent — by far the highest in the nation. Add federal obligations, and the total burden would rise to nearly 54 percent. That is not just taxation; it is confiscation.
Quote:For the city’s most mobile taxpayers, however, there is a limit. They are increasingly concluding that enough is enough.

Nobody is getting any "free" shit.
He is less than 2 months in and his fantasies are already failing.
You don't have a clue.
It's time for the freeloaders to get off their asses and get a job.

You didn't provide evidence that your claims have any merit.
Looking at past corporate tax hikes in other places there, the result was that it did not impact or create corporation flight. It may be that corporations are just squawking to see if they can have power over Hochel's policies. The fact is the people are the ones who will vote in the new Governor, not her campaign donors.

"Not so, says Nathan Gusdorf, executive director of the Fiscal Policy Institute, a progressive group that supports Mamdani and has been calling for income and corporate tax increases for several years.
“The most powerful regional economies have high tax rates,” he said, pointing to New Jersey, Massachusetts and California. “Based on our research, we seem to be in a zone where you can raise the tax rates and not see any impact on relocation.”"

Yeah, yeah, your usual shtick of refusing to believe a source because it goes against your ideas.
"a progressive group that supports Mamdani" lmao. That's a completely unbiased source, right ?

First, Islam isn't a race.
Second, Mamdani is a TWELVER Muslim. They believe that their Mahdi (Muslim Messiah) is coming and that he, and all his followers, will slaughter everyone who isn't Muslim, and then turn the world hard core Muslim. Mamdani puts on a front to be acceptable but this is what they believe.
That means a whole lot to me .. and it should to anyone who isn't Muslim. Especially women. The twelver Muslim view on what a womans role is in the world and in marriage is pretty frightening.

Socialists. Communists. All levels of Marxist ....
Always have their hand in your pocket stealing what
you have earned in order to pay for their 'free stuff'
for the unproductive/less productive.
They think because someone earns more, then more
should be stolen from them. No one has a right to keep
what they earn.
It's slavery to the state and it's disgusting.
