Not all food banks are being shut down.
Some are effected.   Others are not.
Depends on the food bank.

Government Programs Providing Food & Funding
How Government Funding Works
  • Direct Food Supply
Programs like TEFAP provide bulk food from the USDA directly to food banks.
  • Direct Funding for Services
The EFSP provides grants to local organizations to cover the costs of providing food and shelter services.
  • Hybrid Models
Many food banks, such as the Food Bank of Delaware, receive funding from a mix of sources, including federal and state government, as well as private foundations, corporations, and individuals.

You been shopping lately?

Yes, absolutely I use a food bank -- and I have a deep freezer to keep stuff -- and a large pantry.

Am I depended on it?  NO.  But some people are.

Don't laugh -- you could be next.

Not trying to be derogatory in any way here but it sounds like you are hoarding food staples that, while you may not be dependent on, someone else might be.

Wasn't my choice.  I had a whole life plan laid out.

Was gonna join the Navy right out of high school.  Go for both a teacher and nursing degree -- with an interest in social anthropology.  I wanted to be financially independent.

But DAMN that pesky birth defect that no one could find until I was 50.  Try being sea sick on land for 6 years.  That was only a small part.

But I did muddle through and am now on Social Security.

I raise my Autistic grandson who is now 17.  Hungry teenager.

Now in family compound of sorts.  It isn't just me.

And I wouldn't call it hoarding.  I'd call it pre-planning.

We still have a couple -- but only get about half as much as before.

But that article has nothing to do with the shutdown.

Keep it shut down. Fuck the government.

I hear some school field trips to national parks may get postponed due to the restrooms being closed.
Other than that it’s not affecting my installation of a giant lawn skeleton today.
I did vote for not giving illegals free healthcare so there’s that.
I’m enjoying the sombrero memes immensely as well.

Hopefully the private and state donors will step up with food bank support until the democrats can get their heads out of their asses.
For the proactives, calling them and pressuring them always helps.

Those checks are probably going to be delayed if the shutdown lasts more than a week or two.
Other than that ... not affecting us at all.
