How do you refer to a member here?
#11
If you click on your profile the top central box has a referrer at the bottom.

You should see a link like this:

To refer a member to this board, direct them to https://denyignorance.com/member.php?act...eferrer=<n> where <n> is your member number.

You have to copy and paste in your browser.

As the member number is different for everyone you can't share the full link.

Hope this helps

I think that link is for referring non-members to the forum, that way the referral is linked to that specific member. That's why the profile has a "Members Referred" section.

I misread the question. Thanks for the clarification ArMaP.

I figured out how to do it (...I think)

I'll use AraMaP as the guinea pig...https://denyignorance.com/User-ArMaP

All you have to do is right click on the member's name and select "Copy Link", then past it in the thread where you want to refer to another member.

https://denyignorance.com/User-ArMaP...Let me know what you see in your notifications for these two references to you.

If you get notified (like you would a reply or a message), then let us know, and we'll know how to do it.

Thx

The only notification I got was the usual "Someone replied to your subscribed thread".

I didn't dare try it, but it was rumored that if you did the "@" at yourself, that you'd create a very fleeting, but powerful wormhole, which would steal all your alcohol, cheetos and marmite.   Just a rumor, but I ain't tryin' it........

Actually, the more I think about this...that WAS the notification I was hoping you'd get.  In essence you were notified that someone had mentioned you in a thread whereas you wouldn't have been otherwise notified without the tag.

I wasn't really expecting some special notification really, just some sort of a head's up that someone had used a member's name in a reply (without a formal "reply" to that person).

The one kind of wonky thing was the way the url showed up.  In the first attempt (in the same reply), it didn't show as a hyperlink at all, just the url text.  In the 2nd attempt (in the same reply), the hyperlink appended some additional characters of my next sentence (the "...Let") which was weird because that's not the way I typed it.  (not sure which one of those triggered your subscription notification).

I'll spare you further 'bothers' with this reply. Smile

Thanks!

I think the notification ArMaP received was simply because he was already subscribed, having replied prior to your test post.

The default is to automatically subscribe to any thread we reply in. We can choose to not subscribe before posting or at a later date.

This test needs to be done with someone who hasn't taken part in this topic. So, let's try with TSK:

https://denyignorance.com/User-theshadowknows

Or

@theshadowknows

Yeah, good point!

I really would like to figure this out, if possible.  I think it's a handy feature.
