First we have to ask ourselves “What is Religion ?”
It’s at this moment that we seem to break apart as a cohesive group. It’s nothing new.
Religion is a group of people with similar/same beliefs who have banded together to practice their faith/beliefs together. The same applies to everyone who has identified themselves as Christian, Jewish, Islamist or Atheist et al.
Religion is their primary source of practice. Not necessarily their belief.
Their beliefs are actually quite different. This explains the myriad of different Christian churches, Muslum beliefs and the rest of the teachings of each religion.
As a person who has studied Theology I have found that people follow their ancestors faith in various degrees. They identify as what they have been taught, but not necessarily at the same level of worship.
Others have found themselves excited to learn about something that is more along the ideals that they were taught, but that is more about spirituality than it seems.
The new buzzword is spirituality versus religion. I don’t personally have a bone to pick with this, as I see it as being something that is rebellious against the notions of their forebears. I find it as an expression of their desire to keep the faith more than anything.
Anyhow, as usual, my two pesos…
