Why and how in the hell was it removed in the first damn place

a little AI-assisted background...
Quote:Cash bail was largely eliminated for violent offenses in Washington, D.C., effective July 3, 1992. This occurred through the Bail Reform Amendment Act of 1992 (D.C. Law 9-125), which shifted the pretrial release system away from relying primarily on monetary bail toward nonfinancial conditions like risk assessments, supervision, and release on recognizance. While cash bail wasn't completely banned—it could still be used in some cases—judges were required to prioritize alternatives for all offenses, including violent crimes, to promote fairness and reduce unnecessary detention.
The primary reason for the reform was to address the inequities of the cash bail system, which disproportionately incarcerated low-income individuals pretrial due to their inability to pay. Critics argued that this practice punished poverty rather than assessing actual flight or danger risks, leading to higher jail populations, job losses, family disruptions, and racial disparities (as low-income defendants are often people of color). The 1992 act aimed to make pretrial decisions based on evidence of risk rather than wealth, allowing most defendants—including those charged with violent offenses—to be released with conditions unless deemed a clear threat. Studies since then have shown low recidivism rates under this system, with no evidence linking it to increased violent crime.
This reform is now being challenged by H.R. 5214 (the District of Columbia Cash Bail Reform Act of 2025), which passed the House 237-179 and would mandate pretrial detention or cash bail for violent and certain other offenses, overriding D.C.'s local authority.

As is the case with other cities that threw it out in the last few years, because it's "racist"

Since I have a little perhaps Germanic robot part of my brain tied to my logic centres, I see no reason why cash bail would be seen as a racist practise if taken to it's ultimate logical conclusion.
Having the money in the first place, (if you do) ipso facto generally shows that you have the responsibility and wherewithal to hold a steady job, or be intelligent enough to gather the funds through being productive in society. Yes i know that sounds naive but this is a generality. So if you have said responsibility, and can buy your way out, you will be less likely to commit more crimes after bailing or being bailed out.
Likewise, if you cannot afford to bail yourself out, if the bail amount is even too large for the bail loanshark people to lend you in good faith, then you probably (again a crass generalisation) don't 'deserve' to be out yet, anyway.

What will the evil communist leftist DA's call violent crimes now?

Murder?  Nope.

Wearing a MAGA hat?  Yes.
You must develop the ability to be disliked in order to free yourself from the prison of other people's opinions.

Weird, seems like a no-brainer to me.

How about no bail for certain offenses? That seems like a better idea all together.

Whatever, just my 2 pesos…
