All of the motivations every other country in the world have no value, unless those people who declare Greenland a state, a sovereign nation, are "informed" it  is no longer "up to them."

Where does that conversation happen?...

Or, is Greenland now consider a 'square' on a chess board?

And how is it that "someone else" gets to decide who calls it home?

I would be kind of "put off" were I in their place.

The whole conversation objectifies a place (naturally,) but seems to exclude the people who live there.

I can't help but wonder (no presumptions here) if those who live and thrive in Greenland are supposed to not have an allegiance to the world they grew up, and live in...

It's a large and prominent factor in the disposition of all this talk of resources and strategic value, or...

Isn't it supposed to be?

Throughout history, there have been various nation-states that have been political pawns in geo-political chess games.

It's a part of history we do, by necessity, keep repeating as borders and sovereign lines change.

What has been largely absent from the media’s narratives about Greenland is the fact that, from 1966 to 1991, Danish authorities ran a systematic program to suppress Greenland’s birth rate by effectively sterilizing thousands of women and girls, some as young as 12, during routine health appointments, without their knowledge or consent.

In light of that history, Denmark has no moral standing to lecture anyone about Greenland, its people, or its future, and it certainly does not deserve compensation of any kind for relinquishing control. This was the conduct of a colonial power engaged in population control, extending well into the modern era. Denmark should disappear from the discussion entirely and leave Greenland and its people free of any further interference or pretense.

For someone who professes to holding women’s rights high up on the list, you sure do have a way of whitewashing something like this.

There is an 'inertia' it seems, to "forgetting" that at least half of our troubles came from things that were regrettable in dispassionate hindsight.

The horrors of yesterday, nor 'it is what it is,' cuts the mustard... the past is dead, and relying on "politician words" to convey reality in public awareness clearly doesn't actually work for us.  Instead is an institutionalized 'meme-factory' and 'reality TV' show 24/7.  They smothered the news in politics, in abidance with a producers' intent.

The institution that filled the vacuum is active in 'agitation' in "order-of-magnitude" increments.  

I suppose I as a human being would welcome new friends... assuming they wanted that.

I don't want resentful - spiteful - and damaged people who will blame us for all the 'changes' they never wanted, and all the good things they might feel they 'lost.'

I've seen it in some of my ancient travels... the resentment.... it's ugly.  Not in any way welcoming.

another fun fact, denmark was the leading producer of child pornography:

Color Climax Corporation ApS (CCC) was a Danish pornography producer headquartered in Copenhagen. It was founded in 1967 by the Theander brothers and began with the publication of the porn magazine ColorClimax, despite pornography being illegal in Denmark until 1969.
