I think this is just him.   He's been like this his whole life.

His power is checked with Venezuela.  He could do a law enforcement event, which includes military personnel, without congress, but can't do more than that without them.   So it's checked.  

Yes,  he is dangerously close to blowing up NATO and the West.   He is right that it would be better for the USA and Greenland if it were part of the USA ... but you can't force it .... and he is trying to force it so his inner-dictator-wannabe is coming out.

That still ignores how dangerous executive power becomes when norms are disregarded.

And Trump has repeatedly shown a willingness to push authority to the limits.

His threats toward NATO are not empty.

And all he is doing is undermining alliances.

People like Putin and Xi Jinping must be laughing up their sleeves.

Democracy does not just depend on laws.

But on our leaders respecting them...
