Yep. So far.
But I"m sure he'll be coming back with more offers.
That's how these things work ...
If you want something and the answer is no ...
then you sweeten the pot to try to get what you want.
As long as he doesn't take it by force, he can keep making
offers. They may get turned down, but they may not.
I was in the Army. I look at things different than you. When I look at
Greenland I see a sitting duck. They have great resources and are in
a strategic spot. The big players all want it. They can't protect themselves,
And no, NATO, without the USA, wouldn't be enough to stop a takeover.

Trump was not in the army, that's for sure.
Quite the opposite, in point of fact.
As to what he sees, i imagine thats business opportunity, and as you suggest those ""resources.""
What he needs to recognise is clear refusal.
And right now, the only people threatening the place are Trump and his ilk.

We likely all are, of some form or another.

Oh. So that's what happened to the British Empire.¹

True dat Ultra.
They probably have a list of people, who are not on lists, if we are honest.
As to the British Empire, somewhat before my purview or time.
Our empire fell for a multitude of reasons.
Primarily, it was down to the devastating and financial economic impact of two world wars.
Combined with some of the nations we subdued, wishing to be free of British rule from afar.
We are not what i would call the best example, empire-wise, given the way we choose to treat other places and people.
The world spun through, comparing today, to places or people in the past, seldom bodes well imho.

Not really. Russia and China are as well. They just aren't being stupid
and being outwardly vocal about it like Trump is. They want Greenland
as badly, if not more so, than Trump. Make no mistake. They do.

Got any links for that?? I know some in Russia want Alaska back, and a few Chinese are after land given to Russia back in 19th centaury.

Well thay can't have it, anymore than Trump can.
But what you can have.....and do have.
Is the ability to place bases.
And equipment in the area for defensive purposes.
China wants Taiwan Flyers, Greenland not so much, yes, it would be a prize but of a different sort.
As to Russia, what they want is a new navy, that functions for a start.
What they should get is a seat at the back of the bus for a few centuries imho.
Placed on the naughty step for the same to similar reason Germany sat there not so long ago.

I dont have time to read all the pages on this thread at this time but I wanted to plop this summation I edited from wikipedia which I found interesting brain fodder for the old background :
The United States abandoned its territorial claims in the area in 1917 in connection with the purchase of the [Virgin Islands]. Denmark assumed control of the village in 1937.
Knud Rasmussen was the first to recognize the Pituffik Plain as ideal for an airport. USAAF Colonel [Bernt Balchen], who built [Sondrestrom Air Base, knew Rasmussen and his idea. Balchen led a flight of two [Consolidated PBY Catalina flying boats to Thule on 24 August 1942 and then sent a report advocating an air base to USAAF Chief Henry ‘Hap’ Arnold. However, the 1951 air base site is a few kilometers inland from the original 1946 airstrip and across the bay from the historical Thule settlement, to which an ice road connects it. The joint Danish-American defense area, designated by treaty, also occupies considerable inland territory in addition to the air base itself.
In 1949, Denmark joined the [North Atlantic Treaty Organization] (NATO) and abandoned its attempt to remove the United States bases.
Construction for Thule Air Base began in 1951 and was completed in 1953
Thule became an Air Force Space Command base in 1982. The US and Denmark agreed to reduce the base to half its original area on 30 September 1986
In 2020, Thule Air Base was formally transferred to the [United States Space Force. On 6 April 2023, Thule was renamed Pituffik Space Base, reflecting its status as a Space Force base and the native name for the region.

You should of possibly read the whole wiki post instead of just the parts where America are mentioned..
Quote:As a result of the Napoleonic Wars, Norway was ceded to Sweden at the 1814 Treaty of Kiel. The colonies, including Greenland, remained in Danish possession. The 19th century saw increased interest in the region on the part of polar explorers and scientists like William Scoresby and Greenland-born Knud Rasmussen. At the same time, the colonial elements of the earlier trade-oriented Danish presence in Greenland expanded. In 1861, the first journal in the Greenlandic language was founded. Danish law still applied to only the Danish settlers, though. At the turn of the 19th century, the northern part of Greenland was still sparsely populated; only scattered hunting inhabitants were found there.[sup][70][/sup] During that century, however, Inuit families immigrated from British North America to settle in these areas. The last group from what later became Canada arrived in 1864. During the same time, the northeastern part of the coast became depopulated following the violent 1783 Lakagígar eruption in Iceland.
Democratic elections for the district assemblies of Greenland were held for the first time in 1862–1863, although no assembly for the land as a whole was allowed. In 1888, a party of six led by Fridtjof Nansen accomplished the first land crossing of Greenland. The men took 41 days to make the crossing on skis, at approximately 64°N latitude.[sup][71][/sup] In 1911, two Inatsisartut (Landstings) were introduced, one for northern Greenland and one for southern Greenland, not to be finally merged until 1951. All this time, most decisions were made in Copenhagen, where the Greenlanders had no representation. Towards the end of the 19th century, traders criticised the Danish trade monopoly. It was argued that it kept the natives in non-profitable ways of life, holding back the potentially large fishing industry. Many Greenlanders however were satisfied with the status quo, as they felt the monopoly would secure the future of commercial whaling. It probably did not help that the only contact the local population had with the outside world was with Danish settlers. Nonetheless, the Danes gradually moved over their investments to the fishing industry.
By 1911, the population was about 14,000, scattered along the southern shores. They were nearly all Christian, because of the missionary efforts of Moravians and especially Hans Egede (1686–1758), a Lutheran missionary called "the Apostle of Greenland". He founded Greenland's capital Godthåb, now known as Nuuk. His grandson Hans Egede Saabye (1746–1817) continued the missionary activities.[sup][72][/sup]

Bilinguism is official only in New Brunswick province, out of 'em all. Then there's still a lot of strife between the native and the canadian, especially since the discovery of children bones buried behind an old orphanage for native kids a few years ago, of which they actually had stolen from their families, but yeah, Canada.
As for "inclusive policies", it's basically "don't care if you don't speak french nor english, as long as you can work. Of course it's inclusive lol.
Different thread but the ol 'poor dead Natives abused and buried in unmarked graves' in Canada thing has been disproven as propaganda for a long time

And Budgie was laughing because the AI gave countries that are most assuredly NOT nationalistic.
