He deems it necessary because he has plans for an antimissile network, and you don't put that sort of thing under the control of someone like Denmark.

Like I said, Trump climbed down and excepted a deal that was already in place, America already has a base in Greenland, Denmark and NATO just gave him permission to add an extension!!

The idiot Trump can't help himself it seems, with his insults aimed at NATO countries and now it's soldiers. Maybe he's venting because he didn't get his way after his little tantrum over Greenland?
It appears the draft dodger has no understanding of the commitment NATO forces gave after Article 5 was invoked. His continued attacks and insults on his allies is getting boring.

Quote:Trump prompts outrage with claim Nato troops avoided frontline in Afghanistan.
Donald Trump has provoked outrage among British MPs and veterans after claiming Nato troops stayed away from the frontline in Afghanistan.
The US president made his comments in an interview with Fox News in which he reiterated his suggestion that Nato would not support the US if asked.
His remarks drew condemnation from across the political spectrum, with critics pointing to the 457 British deaths in Afghanistan and highlighting Trump’s avoidance of military service in Vietnam.
A total of 3,486 Nato troops died in the 20-year conflict, of which 2,461 were US service personnel. Canada suffered 165 deaths, including civilians.
Denmark, which has been at loggerheads with the US over Trump’s designs on Greenland, had 44 combat deaths in Afghanistan, the most per capita outside the US.
In the interview with Fox News, Trump said: “We’ve never needed them. They’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan … and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the frontlines.”
Calvin Bailey, a Labour MP and former RAF officer who served alongside US special operations units in Afghanistan, said Trump’s claim “bears no resemblance to the reality experienced by those of us who served there”.
“He has desecrated the memory of hundreds of British soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan, people who we called friends and comrades. If he was a man of honour, he would get down on bended knees to ask forgiveness from the families of the fallen.”

The irony from draft dogging Mr bone spurs is palpable.
It seems to me the only thing Donald knows about war happens on the Discovery Channel or FOX News.
A lot of those boys died for their respective nations, blown apart or bleeding out on a battlefield floor.
Which is a lot more than he will ever achieve.

When you consider Denmark, Canada, and Great Britain immediately sent troops after article 5 was evoked for the first and only time, Trump has the arrogance to say NATO doesn't work and then sh*ts on the memory of those that fell.

Yeah, it tugs a heart string, Kurokage.
They gave their lives.
Poor form and then some.
It's pretty clear he says these things for attention or as a distraction.
Why some people fail to see him for what he really is, that's the real humdinger imho.

I think anyone on here defending Trump and his big mouth need to take a long hard look at this senile old man.
How anyone can believe and support this p**s poor effort of a man anymore is beyond belief. To insult fallen soldiers who only died because the US asked for help is about as low as a person can go.
All because Greenland and NATO wouldn't allow him to 'buy' Greenland.
