They probably could do that by introducing a synthetic chemistry that is in the lone star ticks that are infected into the food supply. I do not know how they could do that or if it will work, but I am sure they have had enough years to research it now to possibly accomplish that.
Don't know if we can trust this article to be real, just because someone said they could does not mean they can and that the delivery system would actually work to alter the bodies systems. Not all people who get bit by infected ticks actually get this problem from what I read. It may be that they instinctively consume an antidote that stops the change...foods can interact with our metabolism and cause a neutralization of diseases sometimes so choosing the companion or antidote food can stop an illness, just because nobody has put two and two together does not mean it is possible. We only know maybe five percent maximum of how our bodies work so far, they are discovering all kinds of new stuff every day. But instead of trying to find a way to protect us from getting a disease, they are putting money into research to treat the disease after you have it. I guess when about twenty five percent of the GNP is from healthcare and medicines and all the tests, the medical industry and pharmaceutical trade and hospitals not being needed would make our economy look really bad....so the government agencies overseeing that industry need to keep the GDP up or our economy will crash. Those numbers also include pharmacies and their employees, and also the extra people overseeing those agencies and the health insurance companies employees and business expenses and profits too.
Healthcare is a big money maker in America, the sicker people are the more it grows.

Meat supplies a lot of nutrients to a lot of people that would take tons of veggies to supply, I know some vegetarians, they graze on veggies eating them in way higher volumes than meat eaters do. The increase in veggi and grains to feed everyone would put way more stress on the soils than the cows grazing on them do. Plus, with so much roundup already used on that land, lots of veggies would not be able to grow from it. The farming of corn for alcohol, and the fields of soy products are pretty taxed out, the pesticides have depleted the soil bacterias needed to replenish the soils. We have created a monster with all the chemical farming and growing all the corn to make ethynol for gas
Where are we going to grow the extra food to feed the people, we would have to kill all the animals and birds that eat it...those animals are very important for the biodome we live in on this planet. Sure, we would not need cows anymore, but does that give us the right to put them into extinction, survivors living in zoos for our grandkids to have to pay to go see?
