 FORT STEWART, Ga. — Fort Stewart in south Georgia has been placed on lockdown due to an active shooter incident, according to posts on the base's Facebook page.
Fort Stewart is located about an hour southwest of Savannah and is home to the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division.
"Fort Stewart is in a lockdown status due to an active shooter incident in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The installation was locked down at 11:04 a.m. and law enforcement is on the scene at the time," a Facebook post at 11:44 a.m. stated. "Casualties have been reported and the situation is ongoing. Follow our platforms for more information."

[ORIGINAL STORY] The Commander of Fort Stewart has issued a lockdown in the 2ABCT area of Fort Stewart including Wright and Evans Army Airfield, as well as the Fort Stewart Schools.
Law enforcement has confirmed there is an active shooter on the scene. Four people have been taken to the hospital and one suspect has been identified by law enforcement.
Community Superintendent Brian Perry issued a statement to Kessler Elementary School, Murray Elementary School, and Diamond Elementary School which reads:
“Per DOD alert the commander of Fort Stewart has issued a lock down. Diamond, Kessler, and Murray Schools are all in a lock down at this time. There is no immediate threat to the schools at this time. We will send a message when an all clear is announced.”



WTOC has contacted Ft. Stewart and was told that they are assessing the threat and will provide updates as they become available.
The 2nd Brigade area is also on lockdown and all gates on Fort Stewart are currently closed.
Fort Stewart officials advise the community to lockdown facilities immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors

How does an active shooter make it on an active military base for well over an hour now at this point? I realize that there are a lot of hiding places and a lot of buildings to go through but there should be plenty of active guns there looking for this POS that it should not take long.

The actual outcome will probably surprise us all, but I'm sure there is already someone lurking in the wings to come in and try to use this in any and every way they can. 

I pray that there are no fatalities from this and that it get's resolved ASAP. Preferably with a couple well placed shots to the chest and head but beggars can't be choosers.

BREAKING:

FIVE soldiers have been shot at Fort Stewart in Georgia, but miraculously, NONE of them have lost their lives Praise God!  The suspect is IN CUSTODY per police, but the base remains on lockdown. Nearby school lockdowns have been lifted and children are being dismissed at normal times.

The suspect was identified as a male U.S. Army sergeant, a U.S. official confirmed to Fox News' Liz Friden. His name has not yet been released.

Hopefully we get some more information on this soon. Definitely explains how they were able to avoid being arrested for so long and the capability to get on base and procure a weapon.

Just saw this on CNN at the gym. He used a personal weapon he had somehow brought to the base.

I did not think personal guns were allowed on military bases.
