Flipped Car…

At 1:30 PM today I was driving near my house and I saw this SUV upside down. No other cars near it. The passengers were all out of the SUV sitting next to it.

The cop on the scene is my friend from high school. I stopped and asked him what happened. He was shaking his head and said he had no clue.

He said the driver and passengers said the airbag went off and the car flipped. I looked at the SUV and it only has a scratch on the side.

It’s hard to speed in that area because of traffic and he was in the driveway of a parking lot!

I just found it odd!

My guess, the driver though it would be cool to take that turn at nearly 50 MPH. then hit the curb, impacting the wheel assembly and through it, the frame, and the driver let go of the wheel... instant flippage.

I've seen what happens when someone lets go of the wheel at speed... this kind of thing can happen.

You are most likely right. That sounds 1000% possible.

You can see tire/wheel marks on the curb, usually an indicator loss of steering control. The marks on the yellow pole show some impact. This would lead me to believe that the vehicle hit the curb, bouncing up and off the pole striking the side of the car, deploying side impact airbags and then rolling onto its roof.

Not necessarily due to either driver error or vehicle malfunction, perhaps both?

Speed, inattention, blow-out on passenger side?
