Satanism is it's own testimony, really.

The stories of dabbling allways seem to be between an epitaph or some identifiable revenge type thing. 

"He refused to give in, so he pulled out a gun and held his family hostage."

"It appears they died by the sword."

"Something selfish, something ego, something martyr." 

"She was arrested when she destroyed his car after finding another woman's text messages on his phone. She then incapacitated him with a stun gun, tied him up with rope, and branded the words cheater into him with a curling Iron."

For most, getting into occultish Devil stuff is like willingly doing meth. And like meth, they may end up not being able to view themselves objectively after they gain 5 additional voices in their head and stop sleeping. 

And like addicts, most need only one additional psychological higher power device to save them from themselves.

And this isn't a troll answer.

It seems to me they are just giving up themselves to a higher power perhaps because they never really had any individual power or bothered to or never tried to find it because of fear, so they turn to good or bad religion for that safety and comfort of not having any personal responsibility for their actions or the having to do the hard work of living life in one's truth.

There are many different sects of Satanism -- just like there are many different sects of various religious beliefs.

I'd say most that claim Satanism are pseudo fake and not true Satanists.

The name Baphomet appeared in 14th‑century medieval Europe.

Linked to coerced confessions of the Knights Templars, but descriptions were inconsistent and likely politically motivated.

FYI the modern goat-headed, winged image, comes from 19th-century occultist "Éliphas Lévi".

It apparently symbolises balance and duality, not worship.

The Church of Satan, founded by Anton LaVey in 1966 was atheistic as far as im aware.

But like you pointed out earlier, the term "Satanic" has multiple meanings.
