Everything you're allowed to watch on TV without a licence
#1
So evidently there is a yearly fee for over-the-air broadcasts in the UK

It means that instead of paying £169.50 per year, your bill is now £174.50. A licence is not just for the BBC. You must pay for a licence if you watch or record live TV on any channel or service, or use BBC iPlayer.

Everything you're allowed to watch on TV without a licence
Quote:It's April, which means it's time to pay for your TV Licence, unless you're on Direct Debits of course. This week the fee will rise by £5 for those who pay for a colour licence.

There are some exceptions to those who have to pay such as people on Pension Credit or registered blind, which you can read about hereFor money-saving tips, sign up to our Money newsletter here
And if you still have a black and white TV, then your bill is a lot cheaper, but rises from £57 annually to £58.50. These are all the programmes you can watch legally if you don't have a licence:
  • Streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus
  • On-demand TV through services like S4C, All 4 and Amazon Prime Video
  • Videos on websites like YouTube
  • Videos or DVDs
TV licences cost the same for homes and businesses. And if you live in a shared houeshold then you still need your own licence if you have separate tenancy agreeements and watch TV in your own room. This is the same for students.
The Government states: "You can be fined up to £1,000 if you watch or record live TV without a TV Licence." They know if you are covered through their national database.
They also deploy visiting officers and detector vans that can detect the use of TV receiving equipment at targeted addresse.s

Please blow up your TV.

Also, aren't the "detector vans" fake? Unless you're peeking in windows you can't detect reception.

I've never understood why the UK has to pay to watch broadcast TV. Is it just another way for the BBC to screw you out of money ?

So does UK ISP block all the myriad streaming platforms that give you virtually unlimited access to programs that are hosted off site and available at the click of a button? I don't pay a dollar in subscription, I find alternative sources.

If they didn't want me exploiting the internet for free media, they wouldn't have invented the internet.

Persons who do that is growing of course but  TPTB not getting thier cut might be one reason there's a price hike.
