EV tax in California... 30 cents per mile. Pilot program underway?
#1
Just a "head's up" for anyone interested in the manner of governance which is becoming more visible in our nation... let's look at a short video about California's 'direction' in managing taxes

California has proposed a new tax for Electric Vehicle owners... a $0.30 tax per mile travelled.

Shocker?  Or not?

(pardon the short video link not displaying)

I saw this and figured that at least some of us would like to discuss it.

YouTube shorts are designed so they can't be embedded. California charges gas vehicles tax at the gas pump, so this EV tax is really the same thing.

Not at all, but it is best not to pay attention to what California does as a state unless you live here.

This was also on the news a few months back... it's as they say "fake news," it's at least got the Breitbart treatment.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/fact...001992007/

Quote:The six-month pilot that begins in August will involve around 800 volunteers randomly split into two groups. One will be charged a flat rate of 2.8 cents per mile, which Prehoda described as a “revenue-neutral rate” that brings in the same amount of money as the current gas tax. The other group will be taxed based on their vehicle’s fuel efficiency. The rate decreases as fuel efficiency increases.

That rate is calculated by dividing the state's per-gallon fuel tax, which will be 59.6 cents per gallon as of July, by the EPA's fuel economy rating for a particular vehicle.

The High-speed rail bridges to nowhere in Fresno aren't cheap.

Now if you want some commie-nazi shit we just banned sell by dates on food to cut down on "food waste" starting in 2026. Now only a "best by" date will be used.

I'm surprised people haven't ran with that one yet. "You vill eat ze spoiled food, ya."

Electric vehicles weigh more than a regular car.
They chew up the roads and tires faster.
I'm not surprised that a left wing state would impose yet another tax on people to pay for it.
They push for the cars, then they push for an extra tax.
The left ... micromanaging everyone and their hands in everyones pockets taking their money.
make russia small again

Force you to go electric.

force you to pay per mile.

maybe it’s about trying to force you not to have a car.

maybe force you into small imcapsulated cities where they can control better.

conspiracy?

globalists have posted videos saying they want to do this and posted it on their websites.

Half right. Its about green initiatives generating less gas tax revenue, but there is a definite EV-centric intent. The reason for taxing it is make up the transportation budget shortfall formerly paid for by the 59.6 cents a gallon gas tax.

Those revenues maintain highway infrastructure. With revenue predicted to decline (because of EV mandates) they want to test pilot ways to recoup a comparative amount of revenue to pay for Caltrans.

California is half a trillion dollars in debt. There's nothing short about this shortfall. Pretending they're trying to recoup and keep things balanced is a joke.

Edit: Ok wait whew let me just remember that I don't live in California any more; being cynical about the state politics there is a grown reflex. I spent some time on the inside. Got out thank goodness. Let Cali do Cali now, I say.

Well, yeah... The overall budget is fucked... It worked fine until covid and everybody moved over cost of living, like high taxes. But now that population growth has returned to prepandemic levels they expect a surplus again before too long. It's not really an economy so much as having Amway as a budget model.

I noticed the assertion about how expensive maintaining the highway is...

But, really?  Haven't they been funded to maintain the highways all along, getting money for this purpose since forever?  It's not like all these highways are models of perfection... it's not like they are all new... where did the surprise of maintaining them come from...  EV's haven't been around and in use long enough to have destroyed the roads.

I have to wonder is there any real oversight of how money is used in government?  Meaning the people reporting the accounting aren't actually paid through the political-appointee machinery?

That is short term.

long term they want to shut down travel for average person.

only rich will own land

only rich will travel

basically trying to return to feudalism so they can be lords

these agendas are all published, they just don’t call it feudalism.

but you will own nothing and be happy.
