Do Spoken Words Have Metaphysical Power?

Or is thinking that they do just superstition?

Example

- If you say to someone who is sick ... the disease you have will mean that you are going to end up using a walker .. do your words have the power to make it more likely to happen?

Another example

- If a lot of people all get together and say the same thing to a person  ... you will be cured of the disease that you are suffering from... do your words have the power to make it more likely to happen?

Twice this past week I have heard two very different people say the same thing ... to be careful what you say because your words have power and can make things happen.   (and these are not the new age kind of people who you would expect to hear it from).

I've heard this kind of thing said when I was a kid growing up in Connecticut.
New England has lots of these kinds of old saying.

So do you think there is some kind of metaphysical truth to it?  Or is it superstition?

Considering the topic, I would suggest eliminating the physical aspect of it.

In other words, I would think it's not the words themselves...

After all, what we consider words, in their spoken form, they are just a mind moving the air...

The consistent 'sameness' of it is in the thoughts that generate it.  It really doesn't matter what language it is spoken in, the phenomena we are discussing is a personal thought manifesting outwards...

So the real question to me is whether its the receiver of the transmitted 'thought' object, or the sender's 'thought' itself, that is the key element of the phenomenon.
