Discovery of Hidden Tomb in Petra
#1
Great new find in Jordan, using ground-penetrating radar.

Quote:Now, archaeologists have answers to their longstanding hunch: An excavation has revealed an untouched tomb in Petra’s famed Treasury structure, containing 12 human skeletons and a wide collection of grave offerings, discovered just opposite of the initial find from 2003.

Quote:Researchers are working to more specifically date the skeletal remains, Dr. Bates said, which broadly date between 400 B.C. and A.D. 106 — “right in the thick of the Nabatean civilization years,” he said.

You would think times was hard back then without modern marvels, yet the architecture is beautiful.  Always wanted to visit Petra.

Yes they didn't have any problem spending lots of time with precision craftsmanship.  It is very beautiful to see, and I suppose well preserved in the climate.  The use of ground penetrating radar and other newtech to reveal all these little hidden surprises is awesome bringing new life to archeology.  I hope for more and discoveries like this with chambers and such perhap reveal more about the use of this site; the idea of calling it a treasury and the big honcho kept all his loot in a jar at the top is perhaps kind of fascile haha

Yeah, it was crazy reading the one article I read about how much they were shocked by the comparison of the movie, to what they found.

Cool discovery!
The earth provides everything we need.
We thought we could do better.
We were wrong.
