Provided they own most 'social media' platforms, or have their way to 'moderate' their contents, it seems obvious most 'info' coming out of these are somehow portrayed in a 'melodrama'/'provocative' fashion, making full use of tactics to rile up people, like attacking the person they admire, or their convictions.
Let's not forget all these algorithms in search engines and social media that filter content based upon the user 'history'. It's getting increasingly harder to find 'neutral' content, and one has to go 'deeper' in the web to find a speck of relevant info among all the shaft.
That is true. I think it's pretty much certain that the "elite" managers of society not only allow a culture of distraction and meaningless conflict, but encourage it. It's an interesting point to ponder, though: are they just giving people what they want, or have they created the distraction, as a buffer to their power? If it's unavoidable human nature to bicker and be tribal, then it's the first. Or is that something that we've been led into?
After all, the exit door is always there. There's nothing saying we have to engage at that level.
There is perhaps a "crabs in a bucket" argument to be made, too.

They do have some good stuff though.
They admittedly do.
Here's Harley Schlanger on Mark Carney's 2019 speech at the 'Federal Reserve Annual Retreat' in Wyoming.
Paraphrasing but ' We can't afford representative governments because the people don't really know what they want - what we need is government by central banks, working with corporations over and above governments with policy drafted by technocrats'.

For folks interested in his opinion Corbett once read Harari's book and reports back here - apparently we are all 'useless' and 'hackable animals'.
I can't imagine why you find him creepy.
This sort of puts "The Algorithm" into perspective, doesn't it?

Interesting question, if I had to guess, I'd say something along the line that they do use instinctive responses, however they 'shifted' what may trigger such responses.
Like those studies about how to trigger sexual hormones without 'obvious' nudity in publicity. They use 'forms' that 'looks like' sexual organs, triggering sexual arousement without the observer being aware of it.
One could look at it as a 'perversion' of instinctive/survival mechanisms in order to influence subjects.
As far as the apple tree is concerned, there's probably not much difference between a worm and a human...

'Worthless' - not heard him use that adjective before lol.
The man's a dangerous fanatic (not to mention rather creepy).
Heard Elon say there'll soon be more robots than humans.
Is that how they're going to herd surplus humans into smart-gulags?

Some sessions from the last day of the conference. Streams at each of the links:
Next Generation Social Movements
Quote:From the streets of Kathmandu to the campuses of Nairobi, the digital spaces of Jakarta and the civic labs of Seoul, youth are reshaping democracy in real time.
How can leaders engage with these signals of change to deepen trust and dialogue with the next generation?
Geopolitical Risks Outlook for 2026
Quote:As geopolitical tensions intensify, security considerations are reshaping economic policy, production and fiscal priorities worldwide.
This session explores how governments are adapting to an era defined by conflict risk and strategic competition. How can economies meet rising security demands without sacrificing long-term growth and stability?
Can We Protect Science?
Quote:From exploring the origins of the cosmos to powering electric grids, scientific discoveries underpin the expansion of human knowledge and the stewardship of our future.
However, as trust in experts wavers and the collaborative spirit of science competes with intellectual property wars and security concerns, how can scientific research remain a driver for future discovery?
What Is the State of the Fourth Estate?
Quote:Journalists still break stories, report the news and share opinions, yet AI is using their words outside of traditional media and already-struggling local outlets are not able to keep up in a fast-changing industry.
How does the fourth estate maintain its traditional standards of accuracy, independence and fairness while also meeting the moment?
Meaning of Politics
Quote:Governments continue to face a choice between economic efficiency, strategic autonomy or a mix of both. With these choices already running the risk of creating disruption to people's day-to-day lives, political ideologies are also increasingly crossing borders and losing sight of local realities.
What does a successful political system look like and has the globalization of politics resulted in politics no longer serving its purpose?
Mental Health When Everything Shifts
Quote:Brain illness such as depression, anxiety, dementia and stroke is the world’s leading cause of disability, costing trillions annually. Meanwhile, fast-moving technological disruption and the erosion of traditional identities and communities are altering how people see themselves and society.
How can we strengthen resilience and safeguard mental well-being in an age of uncertainty?
Global Economic Outlook
Quote:The global economy is expected to grow by ~3.1% in 2026, but trade tensions, technology deployment, public debt and the risk of asset bubbles leave policy-makers and markets on high alert.
What policies will anchor confidence while unlocking longer-term productivity gains?

Maybe. But the alternative is nothing but Pizza Hut memes.
Besides, it'll make good reference when something that was said hits the outrage press over the weekend, or something.
