Being critical is fine, if there are things we can improve, we should. But dancing on people's misfortune is just sick.
It's become commonplace, but factually, Kerr County received plenty of warning, just nobody there was paying attention #1 that includes county and camp officials #2, depending on the topography, no telling how much lead time the camps along the river need, even if somebody was paying attention.

Quote:Yes, Kerr County received early warnings of flooding potential prior to the catastrophic flooding on July 4, 2025. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flood watch for parts of south-central Texas, including Kerr County, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 1:18 p.m. CT, highlighting a high risk of flash flooding through the overnight hours. This was followed by a flash flood warning for Kerr County at 1:14 a.m. CT on Friday, July 4, which specifically noted "life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses" in areas including Kerrville, Ingram, and Hunt. A more urgent flash flood emergency was issued at 4:03 a.m. CT for Kerr County, followed by another for Kerrville at 5:34 a.m. CT, stating that "a large and deadly flood wave is moving down the Guadalupe River" and urging residents to seek higher ground immediately. Additionally, the NWS Weather Prediction Center issued a mesoscale discussion early on July 4, forecasting heavy rainfall with hourly rates of 2–3 inches and localized 6-hour totals over 6 inches, indicating "significant impacts" from potential flash flooding.
Despite these warnings, some local officials, including Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly and Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice, claimed the flooding’s severity was unexpected, stating that no warning system was in place and that the NWS forecasts "did not predict the amount of rain" seen (up to 10–15 inches in some areas). However, the NWS warnings were timely and escalated appropriately as the situation worsened, with specific alerts issued hours before the Guadalupe River surged. Social media posts and media reports also indicate that AccuWeather, a private forecasting service, sent warnings hours before the floods, suggesting that some predictive information was available. The disconnect appears to stem from local authorities’ underestimation of the event’s magnitude and delays in public notification, as the first local government alerts on social media (e.g., Kerrville Police Department) were posted around 5:16 a.m. on July 4, hours after the NWS warnings.
In summary, Kerr County did receive early warnings from the NWS starting Thursday afternoon, with escalating alerts overnight as conditions deteriorated. However, local preparedness and communication may not have fully leveraged these warnings, contributing to the perception that the flood "came out of nowhere."

To be clear Kerr county was under a flood watch and then flood warning as the tragedy unfolded. Despite what leftist accounts will tell you. The funding to NOAA hasn’t been cut yet. NOAA budget cuts effective FY 2026, starting October 1, 2025, pending Congressional approval.

There were people missing from positions at that weather office but the warnings got out hours before the flood. They did their job.
There are over two dozen emergency services listed in Kerr county Texas that should have been monitoring the weather from the previous days predictions. Those along with the local governments within that county, were they all asleep?
And now everyone is playing the 'it was someone else's fault' game. They had hours of warning but did not listen.
And stop bringing up sirens. They are expensive to maintain, short ranged, and easily ignored. Any enhanced 911 system is capable of activating cell phone warnings as needed. At lease half the population of any area carries one. And the equipment is not additional to what is needed for regular cell operation. There would probably be ten times the number of sirens as cell sites needed in an area for coverae. The 911 services failed in this case.
The response from all these emergency services and government agencies has been great but they failed to prevent this from happening. The biggest problem is most of those that did not prevent this will not learn from it. They just blame someone else.
People are much better at responding than preventing, even with warnings.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

People forget
Basically said the same this when Missouri flooded a few years back...
The thing is, this is pure American states' rights. It's not as if Central Texas didn't deal with flooding with the hurricane a couple of years ago. The politicians and the people of central Texas found other priorities, I bet it will be talked about this election season
If it were important enough, Texas would come up with a more robust warning system. Hell, one person monitoring weather bulletins all night long would have done wonders
Just tragic as hell; they had about 3 hours of lead time, the best I can piece together. Camp Mystic had over 750 kids could they get them all to higher ground in 3 hours?

It takes a sorry piece of shit son of a bitch to make comments like that when people and children are dead and missing. I guess it's some measure of comfort to know people like that are so caught up in their hate that they lead miserable lives.

This is especially heart breaking...
Lived in Texas for a bit, been through several hurricanes that bled floods...
But I really can't imagine being "ready" for that... ever.

In the time line of events I provided in link in my last post it talks about the emergency services that were prepared for the flood event and when they were prepared and where, keep in mind the effected area was Hunt, TX with a population of 700 people. Places like this do not have the resources that most do and are usually very poor areas. I live in a place with half that population. Its peaceful, but you are on your own. I suppose its difficult to imagine if you live in a city.
I'd also like to give people a better understanding of the size of Texas itself. For those in Australia, its about the size of the entirety of Queensland, or the combination of new south Wales and Victoria combined. For those in Europe, its twice the size of Germany. For those in the U.S. it takes 10 hours sometimes longer to cross the entire state of texas in a vehicle. Its 600-700 miles long from top to bottom
