Cambodia calls for immediate ceasefire with Thailand as death toll rises
#1
BBC

Both sides appear to be calling for peace, and a cease fire, and the fighting looks to be expanding.

This may just be a coincidence, but I had a friend move home from Thailand a couple years ago. They wouldn't get into specifics, but they said they didn't feel safe in Asia because of all the tension in the region.

Quote:Cambodia's ambassador to the UN, Chhea Keo, said his country asked for a truce "unconditionally", adding that Phnom Penh also wanted a "peaceful solution of the dispute".

Thailand's foreign minister Maris Sangiampongsa said on Saturday that Cambodia needed to show "genuine sincerity in ending the conflict" for ceasefire talks to proceed.

At least 32 people - soldiers and civilians - have been killed and nearly 200,000 displaced in the two Southeast Asian countries, who accuse each other of firing the first shots on Thursday.

Fighting continued for a third day on Saturday. Thailand's military said the Cambodians launched attacks in a new area near the coast in the south, but were pushed back by the navy.Earlier, Thailand reported fighting in its Surin, Ubon Ratchathani and Srisaket provinces, along the border with Cambodia. It has declared martial law in eight districts bordering Cambodia.

Cambodia would not stand a chance against the Thai military unless some of their backers like N. Korea, China, Russia, and Iran stepped in with logistical support. The people running Cambodia all had connections to the Pol Pot regime IMO. Last word I got was there were as many as 100 Cambodian nationals killed with the airstrikes the Royal Thai Air force carried out.

For many years I have complained about our state department turning a blind eye to what China was doing in S.E. Asia as the real player in the Domino game has always been China. Well maybe they the USA were not as blind as I once thought ?? Now that China Joe is not in office and his predecessors are but a bad memories things are changing for the good IMO.

China supported Pol Pot who killed off a few million of his own people; educated, wear glasses, went to school overseas, piss off an enforcer, and a club to the head or a bullet was the punishment. One of the better movies about that was "First They killed my father" https://youtu.be/uS3Vp_quGCw  Vietnam wiped out Pol Pot and his minions on the surface but the Chinese communist roots run deep in Cambodia. I was flying in and out of Phnom Penh (carrying mostly people of the state department types) as the whole country was falling under the Chinese supported Pol Pot regime. America was sidelined to do anything as Vietnam had fallen and America was back into the isolationism cycle.

More current time period, there was a big stink about a phone conversation between the leadership puppets of Cambodia and Thailand because the conversation was intercepted by the USA Sneaky Pete boys and girls. Back in the 70s from S.E. Asia we could listen to taxi cab drivers in N.Y. City if it was so desired so the intercept of the conversation is no big surprise.

In the conversation the true colors of the Thai P.M. was outed and she was shortly removed thereafter.

I have a lot of faith in the Thai military as most IMO are not puppets of Beijing and do not want to be the good little soldiers for the CCP/PLA.

I am glad that many of the USA puppets of the Chinese have been removed from our government for they are worse than any virus as the corruption continues to spread if unchecked.

The whole thing started, as I have gathered, over a temple ruins. I guess both sides wanted to claim it and there have been some scuffles. It sits right on the boarder up on a ridgeline in the jungle. Currently the Thai's control it but I think they wanted to strike a big blow back in response to the rocket attacks on civilans. Maybe now they can find a way to wind this down.

On the other hand Cambodia's ally in the region is China...and with the Chinese expansion in the region I wouldn't be surprised if Cambodia invited the Chinese to have a few bases there to protect them. China would probably love an excuse to get some naval and air reach in the area and its unlikely to happen without fighting going on.

Who has claims to temple is just the spark....

We always see and hear reporting of "pleas for peace"...

Then, the rogue squads hit here and there ... and the retaliations begin....

this kind of conflagration has roots...
the media doesn't report on a topic unless it "serves" an appearance...

Welcome to journalistic reality.

Vietnam and China are not friends. Vietnam kicked the Mongols butt and even the Han Chinese a few times since then. Those facts plus with the tariff stuff added into the mix, all are helping to make China a Piranha not a bed mate unless you are wanting to sell you country out to enrich yourself.

With China's claim of everything within the 9 dash line and the new ports and infrastructure projects for their new silk road/belt and road projects to include a high speed rail from Kunming China through Laos and Thailand all the way down south ending up in in Singapore: China is not standing still. My biggest question is will the current CCP regime collapse from within ?  Also any rail project will be interesting as every time a bomb or a bullet is fired down south there seems to be a Muslim hot head doing the deed. Having a 200MPH train derail and kill everyone is something right down their evil shit for brains planning book IMO.

After the minor earthquake where the newly Chinese constructed high rise collapsed in Bangkok that tended to sour everything Chinese made unless you are already in the CCP's pocket; and in Asia there are plenty of those types of bought and paid for traitors.

Its getting hard to ignore the number of countries that are aligned with China, and have had regional conflicts lately. For Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, now Cambodia, and I am sure others, having China as an ally has emboldened them to flex there muscles a little.

We even had Venezuela threatening Guyana.

While this topic is about the "immediate ceasefire" PR effort... observations about the overall influence and actions of their major power neighbor, China... have a place... but try not to drift, eh?

It's cool...

I just found myself mentally dropping a few floors down a rabbit hole about China... so the warning was for myself... "not to got there now."

Please, somebody make a thread about China's actual friendship circle.

There was a ceasefire negotiated in Malaysia that was supposed to start last night at midnight; then after the supposedly golden hour more Cambodian missiles struck the Thai side of the border. Like many I am wondering why and who is pushing this conflict.

One possible outcome I have played around in my feeble head is let's suppose Thailand has had enough and instead of patty cake slaps dished out by the Thai military they go in and start to roll up the side walks and leadership of Cambodia.  "Ta Da" that is exactly what China wants so they can come with the PLA to save Cambodia from the mean western backed Thais.

See I can still think paranoid like we used to do with the NSA but with typing, you do not have to talk without moving your lips !! hahaah  Only someone who has been there will understand that..
