California wildfires
(01-14-2025, 09:01 PM)xuenchen Wrote: So who actually believes this story about a big shot big time investor that supposedly invested $27 Million into a Malibu house and only expects to get $3 Million from insurance?

Real extra sharp investor here eh roflol  Lol Lol

I say the story is BS and is some kind of pre-rebuttal to some kind of liar-scam garbage.  Lol

Story says this genius was "forced" to go with FAIR insurance

An investor who spent $27 million on a mansion that burned down on ‘Billionaire’s Beach’ only expects $3 million from insurance

The article explains that no conventional insurer would insure the house, so his only option was the "last resort" state insurance, which is capped at a maximum of 3 million dollars.

That’s ridiculous, no way in hell would I sign that agreement.

Eye witnesses (hikers) and satellite imagery may show electrical tower cause of wildfire.

And it works to some degree. Where I am has escaped fire this season and this may be the reason. And It took the 2007 Witch Creek Fire to evacuate 1 million people to implement these safety protocols.

LADWP is next, especially with this getting out:

The above is what could have and probably did cause this. Blame The Department of Water and Power. For not having enough water and too much power.

I have to ask does Cali clear the areas beneath powerlines or is it just the towers?

Ive hunted here in Georgia and occasionally in Tennessee and we would regularly hunt the powerlines as it was the one place where you could get a long open row from each tower. Why, because they cleared not only around the towers but the whole area beneath the wires. I can make educated guesses as to why they did this, probably to make maintenance easier, and to fix downed lines from tornadoes and ice storms but these were mostly logging areas.

Done properly the area under the lines could be made fire-resistant, by just clear-cutting and gravel.

This is similar to what they want homeowners to do around thier houses, have it completely cleared and gravel rock or concrete perimeter for 5 feet

California went from surplus to deficit in their 300 + billion budget in only 3 years, then they went on a spree of budgets cuts that completely decimated their emergency responses in the state.

Somebody have to be accountable for this failure.

Maybe this is the reason insurers decided to drop their policies in high risk areas of the state where natural disasters could become a problem, who knows.

Article also says he was ready to put it on the market for sale. Who would buy it if no insurer would insure it? Geniuses  Lol Lol

Well, they are using accelerant-sniffing dogs to rule out arson, so I'll wait until those reports are finalized. It's just odd when you think of that guy running around with a blow torch, and now $5k is offered to anyone catching an arsonist. Although I don't know if a blow torch would leave an accelerant remnant for a dog to pick up.

Michel Valentine, former U.S. attorney, blamed Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for what he described as failures in the local government’s response to the wildfires.
“In my opinion, as a former prosecutor, this verges on criminal negligence. I say it’s just wrong,” Valentine said in an interview Tuesday on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports.”
“A lot of people are at fault,” he continued. “I think Mayor Bass bears the ultimate responsibility for this failure, and I think she should be held accountable. There’s no way that that I could trust her again as my mayor in light of this tragedy. There’s no way.”
Valentine — who said he lives at the top of the Pacific Palisades, next to the ridge line where the fire broke out — described seeing the initial plume of smoke grow rapidly in size last Tuesday. The former federal attorney said his wife called 911, but it took nearly 45 minutes for a helicopter to respond and dump water on the fire.
“I have no idea why that is,” Valentine said, responding to why it took so long to respond. “It could have been confined. It wouldn’t have touched any of the homes.”

Well, criminal negligence needs to be proven and if anyone knows this it would be a former attorney. Tensions are high and guessing what firefighting techniques should have been deployed when those that know what they are doing are doing their best according to their training, doesn't help the situation in any way, shape or form.
