Thats what large businesses do. Pursuit of gains at all costs. Id expect nothing less but its a shame though. Hopefully its all formality and show and the people get what they want and need

Is that he is reducing people and their culture to profit and leverage. And thats just wrong in this day and age... It's what happens when he does not get what he wants that's problematic.

Is the Argentinian President and VP just wishful thinking that they can move forward with bilateral negotiations? USA's backing out of diplomatic support for UK's sovereignty claim means nothing IMO.
"A leaked internal Pentagon email from April 2026 suggests the US could review its diplomatic support for the UK’s sovereignty claim over the Falkland Islands as punishment for Britain's refusal to fully back US-led military strikes in Iran. The memo, attributed to senior adviser Elbridge Colby, proposes reassessing US backing for European "imperial possessions" and also considers suspending Spain from NATO. Key details and reactions include:
"The only journey is the one within."

We beat them last time they invaded and Argentina have a much smaller army since then- the Pentagon memo woint make any difference as the US has no authority or say in the matter if they were to enact it as a policy; it's more a poorly thought out kneejerk threat to UK and other NATO nations response to Iran Whoever wrote it hasn't thought through as they have no idea how NATO or democracies function (i.e Pentagon wanting Spain thrown out of NATO for publicly disagreeing with a non-NATO war and NATO having no remit to expel nations for being sovereign democracies enacting freedom of expression on non-NATO issues). There's more chance of it shooting the Pentagon in the foot if they did adopt it as policy as when Argentina invaded UK-NATO soil in the 80s the US refused to allow UK use of bases to defend itself from invasion while this memo/policy suggestion is retaliation for UK/NATO members allowing US to use bases for defensiive strikes in Iran but not offensive strikes so it would only prove NATOs point and harm Trumps claims that the US has always been there for NATO members. Falklanders voted 99.82% to remain part of the UK with only three people voting to become independent from it and wbile our Navy does need to be strengthened we're even more capable in recapturing the territory by launching bombing raids from the UK than in the last war while Argentinas forces are small, largely part-time and nowhere near as well trained as the UK.

Not sure what a Kelper is but we did when the Falklands held a referendum a few years back and only three people voted not to remain part of the UK - Falklanders were a bit suprised that anyone voted to no longer be part of the UK as they're far more patriotic than mainland UK and we've always supported their wishes to remain a part of it. The memo would have had a valid point if it had chosen Cyprus or an overseas territority where as little as 10% of the population no longer wanted to be UK or Commonwealth affiliated. Less than 0.08% Falklanders want to leave the UK so it's the last country on Earth to try and sow division or false claims it's a hangover from Imperialism and no chsnce Trump or higher ups at the Pentagon would be dumb anough to adopt the suggestion. Quote:Islanders voted overwhelmingly to remain as a British Overseas Territory, the referendum saw 92% of all eligible voters turn out, resulting in 99.8% of votes being ‘yes’. It was confirmed by the independent observers that the referendum process was free and fair, and was executed in accordance with international standards and local laws. https://www.fiassociation.com/news/press...-years-on/ |
