Boy Suspended For Disarming Gun Brought To School
#1
So, this happened near me.

This young man was taught about guns and gun safety.  He saw that another kid brought a gun to school.  He took it, disarmed it.  Then got expelled for a year.

So, there are lots of unanswered questions here.  I have found a report saying that a student called the police, but it doesn't say if it was Sakir, or another student.
It says that he did not want the kid who brought the gun to school to get into trouble.  So it is not known now, if that student has also been expelled.

Apparently this wasn't handled well, all the way around.
11-Year-Old Expelled After Taking Gun Away from Classmate, Friend Says He 'Acted Out of Courage and Compassion'

I don't think he should have been expelled.  Should he have turned the student in?  Probably.
But..
Knowing this school?  (I lived near there, and my friend's daughters went there.)  It used to be just called Dwight Rich Middle School.
If he would have told on the kid?  He would more than likely been beaten up everyday, harassed and possibly worse.

Sounds like the young man has a good head on his shoulders, and someone has taught him well.

I hope they get this sorted out, or they are able to move to a safer school district.

This is what happens with Zero Tolerance policies. They don't look at the circumstances, they just go by a rule book written by idiots.

About 10 years ago they tried to suspend my son for fighting. My son is one of the most even tempered people you'll ever meet. A guy was picking on his sister, who is gay, and saying some pretty nasty things to her. My son bounced him off a locker....several times. They were going to suspend him and let the other kid off with a warning, till I brought up the fact that I would file a complaint with the Board because that kid was picking on my daughter just because she was gay and what a world of shit I could start over that.

My son did not get suspended.

I complained to the Board anyway. I don't take that shit.

Unless I missed it, not a single word was spoken about whether or not the child, that actually brought the gun to school, got in any sort of trouble.

These zero tolerance policies in schools are really starting to get out of hand. SMH

No, I couldn't find it either, except the mention by the one news outlet, that they didn't know either.

Sad thing is, this child is being punished for PROPERLY knowing how to handle a gun.
