I have had Sleep Paralysis since age 7. Nearly 1000 lifetime episodes. Typically visited by the 7' faceless, handless hooded demon. I never knew what it "Sleep Paralysis" was until the Spring of 2019 thanks to SLED735 of ATS. RIP SLED! The SP came to a head back in December 2018 around Christmas. Its a HUGE backstory that I wont get into here. At that time I was a non practicing Catholic. I began to pray to everyone, for the SP to stop, including Jesus and God. The hooded demon hasn't returned since that year and its now 2025. My last SP episode was January 2022. None since. I do still encounter other weirdness. I am documented on YouTube and SubStack as I did a 40+ minute podcast with Dr. Sheila Pryce Brooks of York University, London, UK. The Dali Lama follows her on X. What you describe — clear sounds heard while fully awake — is something that many sleep paralysis experiencers also report. It’s sometimes called “auditory displacement” or “boundary sounds,” where the edges between physical and non-physical spaces become more permeable, especially around sleep, wakefulness, and altered states of consciousness.
The Society for Psychical Research (https://www.spr.ac.uk/report-an-experience) is also recognising the connection between sleep paralysis and paranormal phenomena in the cases they are currently studying, which helps affirm that these experiences are far more widespread — and far more significant — than once believed.
From my experience and research, what you’re describing is well known among sleep paralysis experiencers and those going through expanded states of consciousness. It does not automatically suggest a neurological issue and as we have discussed in the past, you are extremely sensitive to phenomena that fits outside of what is considered 'normal'.
However, if you continue to feel concerned, it’s always wise to listen to your instincts and seek reassurance if that feels right.
Please know you are not alone in this. Experiences like yours are part of a much larger journey that many people are now beginning to understand more deeply.
