Days after being selected for the up coming Moon mission the Blue Origin Glen Rocket has exploded on the launch pad during a test. Thankfully, all personnel are accounted for and no one was injured during this catastrophe. The first of those three payloads, Moon Base 1, was set to be transported on Blue Origin's robotic Blue Moon Mark 1 "Endurance" lander was scheduled to be carried to the moon by this rocket.

She apparently blew up the force of a 1-kiloton explosion.

I think the 1-kiloton claim comes from people estimating how much chemical energy was stored in the rocket propellant.
Probably not quite as large as a Kiloton, but a big bang nonetheless.

I see, I watched that explosion on TV, it reminded me of the The "Mother of All Bombs" (MOAB) that was dropped during the invasion of Afghanistan. I was more than 2 miles away when one of bombs was drop during the Battle of Tora Bora. I have never seen such an explosion anywhere else, the MOAB carried 22,000 pounds of explosive.

I imagine that must have been rather a sight to behold.

It seems to have taken out the whole launch facility, not just the one rocket and launchpad. They are saying they will have to take down the remaining standing tower to make it safe enough to enter that area. One leg is broken off.
Their assembly building and the rocket parts inside it were damaged.
They are predicting at least a year to rebuild, probably longer.

Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Apparently Blue Origin has been very lucky about the damage from this explosion. They now think they can launch again by the end of this year.
