The CEO of insurance giant UnitedHealthcare was gunned down Wednesday morning outside a luxury Midtown hotel in what police called a “brazen, targeted attack” by a chillingly methodical killer who used a firearm with a silencer.
 
Brian Thompson, 50, was repeatedly shot by a masked gunman who had been lying in wait outside the Hilton hotel along Sixth Avenue, where the CEO was hosting an investors’ conference, said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

From the videos of the hit, it looks as if the shooter was an amateur, but then I think that was part of an act by a far more professional shooter. This reasoning came about due to this story that has been released.

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was one of several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.
 
Thompson — who was killed in what police called a targeted shooting outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown — exercised stock options and sold shares worth $15.1 million on Feb. 16, less than two weeks before news of the federal antitrust probe went public, according to a Crain’s New York Business report from April.
 
The stock price dropped sharply after the revelation that the DOJ was investigating whether the company had made acquisitions that consolidated its market position in violation of antitrust laws, a source familiar with the probe told the outlet.

It is both possible that Thompson had himself knocked off to protect others from being indicted. The health care racket is a very big and deadly business.
Though it could also be looked at that the others that were involved with insider trading had Thompson shot to prevent him from exposing the full size of this scam. 

This story smells of cover-up.

The wife of slain health insurance CEO Brian Thompson said Wednesday that her husband had been getting threats before he was gunned down in Midtown Manhattan.
“There had been some threats,” Paulette Thompson told NBC News in her first comments since her husband was murdered early Wednesday.

So he had warnings but made no allotments for security? Something's off about this story. I kind of wondered if maybe he faked his death in order to testify against others involved, but the more I think about it, maybe he committed suicide to protect his family, or the others he did this with had him killed. As of now there is too much still unknown and I'm sure that most of this story will not be told for questionable reasons.

I'd be curious to know of any insurance policies against him (no pun intended).  How much is the wife going to collect.

Also - if there were indeed misconduct, I doubt he was acting alone.  Follow the money...

I think there's no way to tell unless they catch the guy. The idea of it being a targeted hit to cover tracks is not implausible. I'm not convinced that the shooter was some kind of professional assassin. Since UHC denies over 30% of all claims, the highest percentage in the industry, there are probably hundreds of thousands of people with motive to commit this act. The idea of him not having security is not too strange; an attitude of invulnerable narcissism is not uncommon among corporate executives, especially in the more ruthless industries.

The at-large suspect who gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown hotel may have left a message on the bullets he used to kill the executive Wednesday morning, according to police sources.
 
The NYPD is investigating the possible message — which appears to include the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” — engraved on live rounds and shell casings left behind by the masked assassin after he shot Thompson, 50, several times at about 6:46 a.m. before fleeing, the sources said.
 
Cops had recovered three live 9-millimeter rounds and three discharged casings in front of the Hilton hotel on Sixth Avenue, where Thompson, of Minnesota, was set to host an investors’ conference that morning, police officials said.

Sources said several of the pieces of evidence each contained one word, indicating the killer may have been trying to leave a message as investigators try to piece together a motive.

I'm betting that this is going to be played as an attack on the -Q- community given that it's placed out there as a puzzle. I might be wrong, but in the past the media has been known to place the mindless blame on -Q- as well as the media created "QAnnon" group. 

It's also getting played a lot that the gun jammed and the shooter had to clear it. If there were messages left on the bullet casings, then the fact that the gun had to be cleared might have been part of the show put on by the shooter. 

Before anyone asks why, look the shooter had a gun that jammed so he couldn't have been a professional. People will ignore the point that the shooter smoothly cleared the jams and left certain casings behind. Then there is the whole work up to the shooting which seems off given that the shooter did a bang up job of escaping the scene and losing the cops afterwards. 

This whole shooting really smells of something more. Then there is that whole Pelosi angle RookQueen has brought to the table. There's alot more to this story then what it looks like.

The NYPD is investigating the possible message — which appears to include the words “deny,” “depose” and “defend” — engraved on live rounds and shell casings left behind by the masked assassin after he shot Thompson, 50, several times at about 6:46 a.m. before fleeing, the sources said.
 
The words are possible attacks on the health insurance industry, in which Thompson is one of the most powerful leaders — and strikingly similar to a 2010 book condemning the business.

The bullets left behind do seem to have been left intentionally, rather than just jammed rounds. This again smells of a professional assassination rather than just an upset person shooting the guy.
