Arsenic and cadmium found in hundred of U.S. Rice products
#1
Haven't seen a thread about this yet so thought I would mention it. A non profit health organization tested over hundreds of U.S. Rice products and found unsafe levels of arsenic and toxic heavy metals like cadmium. Its all over the news couple days now, any thoughts? Here's some reading or a video https://www.livenowfox.com/news/arsenic-...report.amp

Sigh. I like the organic white rice from California and Indian basmati. I wonder if it being grown organically matters? Is it ground water contamination, soil, or processing?

Quote:The organization also found some types of rice had higher levels of heavy metals and elements than others. White rice grown in California, jasmine rice from Thailand and basmati rice from India had lower levels than brown rice, white rice grown in the Southeast U.S. and arborio rice (risotto) from Italy.

I wonder if it's worth importing rice from Japan. Their rice game is probably on-point. Last I checked, Japan had a 1000% tariff for importing rice, but I'm not sure what the export cost is. I guess it's worth checking again.

I will always rinse my rice for 1-2 minutes in a fine mesh strainer before cooking, supposedly that removes much of any unwanted things.
