I was thinking there is always money for drugs, smokes, and alcohol?
I then thought what if everyone matched what they spent on alcohol for college education?
Why not tax alcohol 100 percent and put the money to free college. Or a 50 / 50 match? Kids need to put a little sweat equity into their education?

Why are people always thinking of new ways to scam me out of my money for something THEY want ?
You wanna go to college ? Pay for it out of your own pocket. Leave mine alone.

There are already plenty of programs that give people free college. The US has the best "sweat equity" free college program in the world, too bad most kids are too lazy and self centered to do it.
I think a better place to start with that would be to look into the tax money that they already do get and make sure it is being used for the proper things.

I demand free college to study liberal arts and gender studies so I can feel elevated, reaffirmed, and superior about my feelings.
pfft
Dropping out of college and learning a trade was the smartest move I ever made.

Yes, screw raising taxes for other people's choices.
Furthermore, the proliferation of College aid programmes and pretty much 'letting anyone who applies in' to make money off of them, has seen the actual value of a College degree plummet in the workplace and society's eyes.
I graduated college 20 years ago when the progressive stuff was becoming common and already I could see the usefulness of the classes start to drop, in a humanities context. I focussed on foreign languages and history, and now I shudder to think how watered down everything has become.

Too many high schools, mine was one of them, focused too much on 4 year degrees. I went to a 2 year trade school and came out of it making 75K a year, with only 10k in student loans. Most of which was my tools for the program.
In almost, notice I say almost, every profession a 4 year degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on. They show how well you can remember something, not how well you can use that something to do meaningful tasks/work.

When I went to college, there was a large technical education part to it. I don't think they do that now except in medical fields of study where I went. Same with highschool from what I have heard.
The available money has made the cost of going increase just because they can get more money. The same with admissions, the more get in, the more money.
Once again the government has made the situation worse by throwing money at it.
I know too much and question everything.
Does anyone know the minimum safe distance of ignorance?
Did anyone ask the monkeys how much fun the barrel actually was?

Well that's a huge generalisation and of course it is largely dependent on the quality of the teachers as well as the student themselves, but yes I see your angle.
If I would do it all over again I would do a trade school, but then I wouldnt be the person I am today. I wouldnt know as many languages or as be as well travelled and have all the fun and crazy experiences I have had.
Everything happens for a reason.

It is a huge generalization but I believe it to be true. And if others don't then that is fine as well. The teachers do play a roll in that angle but I still believe that most colleges are all about regurgitating knowledge rather than putting that knowledge to use.
I might be alone here but I would rather learn in a "trial by fire" manner rather than book and test learning. If I can't take what I am learning and immediately put that to use in a manner that makes sense then it is useless to me.
I loved the trade school I went to, minus my college physics teacher. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
