Ketchikan was so amazing. It was the highlight of my trip. I would love to live there! You must miss it!

This is the ship I was on. It’s over 1000 feet long. 17 levels. Holds 3,500 passengers. 4 pools.

Beautiful images, Quantum!!   You have more sand than me to take a cruise ship.  It looks wonderful on the interior and exterior.

I spent three very wonderful months in Alaska inspecting government buildings and military bases for hazardous materials from Unimak Island to Utqiagvik, (not sure if that is spelled right) and even Kaktovik.   I would fly into a place in the morning, inspect the building(s) and have the whole day and night to play.  Every so often it benefited my schedule and the per diem to rent a car, range out.  This was more than 40 years ago.

I will never forget that when I rolled into Nome, it seemed so primative and desolate.  My per diem was $25/day for food and $50/day for lodging.   The "hotel" I had was a 10 X 10 foot box over a bar and it was $120/night.   I went out to get fed.  There was a restaurant that looked hopeful.  I looked up and there was asbestos pipe lagging that was torn open, and I left.   I ended up having reindeer sausage and goat cheese, and that well satisfied me, because I grew up on venison sausage and kasseri goat cheese.

That was such an amazing three months.  I absolutely fell in love with Sitka.  I enjoyed myself well in Petersburg also.  A gentleman doesn't go into detail.

I bet your 3 month amazing visit changed the way you look at life. You had a great job! Flying in and out with time to explore is the best.

10X10 room over a bar. $120 per night wow. Happy you saw that pipe.

The way of life in Alaska is different than this rat race here in the good ole 48. People were happier, calmer and more of a free spirit minded. I loved Alaska.

I booked the cruise 8 months ago and got the best rate. I don’t drink and it came with the all you can drink premium alcohol package. I was buying drinks for people lol. My room was small but the view was amazing.

The first night at sea was 20 foot waves. I was sea sick and wobbling like I was drunk AF lol.

My Cabin, it looks big but it’s small. It was perfect!

Your cabin looks wonderful!  I just ... maybe it's an extension of my claustiphobia, IDK.... I just couldn't get on a ship with that many people.   My Darlin' and me used to put ourselves in concerts and sporting events with 100,000 people or more, but...... I can't explain it.   I couldn't handle being on a ship like that.

Yes, it did.   Being there three months changed my life and my perspective.   I wanted to move there.  It seems to me one of the places in the world that has the least natural disasters.   I love mountains and rivers and lakes and ocean and large mammals and delicious cold.   Cold hurts my Darlin's joints.  So we went the other way.  ;o)

I totally understand how being around many people hurts your brain. I have to block it out big time. The cold weather in Alaska allowed me to swim in the ships outdoor pool alone. It’s heated but people flocked to the indoor pools lol.

I did have to deal with people eating. That was a slight issue. I too was thinking wow I could live here. My 17 year old would freak right out lol!

Empty pool!

That looks amazing!   I would guess that any normal person would LOVE that!!!   For me it would be too much.  ;o)

The last time we were immersed in hundreds of thousands of people, it was to see Tin Machine in San Francisco.  WOW!  That was such an incredible concert!!!  That was 1993.   We had to wait for nearly everyone to leave before I felt okay about it.   Lol Wow   Freak.    Tumble
