LIVE: Scene from Hong Kong as fire in high-rise buildings kills 13

I'm not sure how they hope to find many survivors.

Those flats burned at about 1000°C for hours.

Survival inside a burning flat like that is essentially impossible.

Even if smoke didn't get you, the thermal environment alone would.

For instance, at around 200°C, people lose consciousness in minutes.

RIP, and what a terrible way to perish.

128 dead with 38% of the residents being over 65 years old. They want to blame the bamboo but it really was the non fire retardant green netting as fire retardant cost more money than the cheap crap of the polyethylene netting and Styrofoam window seals that were used which were more than a simple fire hazard.

If they can ban Bamboo (which grows all over Asia and is actually farmed) they will be able to sell high dollar metal scaffolding at ridiculous prices and knowing them they will still find an non safe way of cutting cost.

Most of the buildings in Asia I have seen had Bamboo scaffolding during construction so believe whatever you want. Bamboo is not that easy to set fire to unless you have a polyethylene net burning at 200C trying to get stuff started.

If you take dry Bamboo and shave the inner lining down to a fine fuzz that will make a great kindling for a fire starter.. Jungle survival and Bamboo is doable ..

Yeah, it was the substandard netting responsible for the spread of the blaze.

That and the fact that it's also been reported that they were covering windows with styrofoam panels.

A recipe for disaster, and all because they choose to cut corners and ignore basic health and safety rules for profit.
