That Flatwoods case is very interesting though, a machine venting gas seems plausible.

Could the metallic clothing just have been regular warped metal? Plasma does things to metal when coming in from space.
The description of “hanging in folds” or “cloak like” and the smell always evoked for me the old tales of cloaked, smelly, weird scythe wielding figures in the Medieval-era spreading plague.
