Where in the world were these pictures taken.  Pretty nice red in them, around here we see lots of them but they are mostly white flame like overhead, or are a little yellow or red over lake superior at low levels.

Those are stunning and remarkably clear and colourful for a cellphone.

When I take pictures in low light without the flash, the camera uses a three second exposure with some anti shake technology.

The long exposure helped to bring out the colours.  Feels like cheating.

The anti shake, I’m guessing is all software initiated.

I go through phases I try to keep my digital SLR camera in the car.  But you have to keep charged batteries on hand.  And the extreme cold and heat during the different seasons isn’t really good on electronics.  Then taking a relatively cold camera into a hot environment causes condensation.  

Easier to use a decent cellphone for those chance shots.

Either way, the reds and pinks just pop.

I've seen the aurora borealis a couple of times.

But nothing so spectacular or vibrant.

Skies will need to be clear and dark, so head away from city lights for the best chance to see it. Infrastructure impacts, like power grid issues, cannot be ruled out.
