My heart bleeds for you...
I know the emptiness of a challenge unanswered...
Would that I could, my friend.... would that I could...
Your positional statement is however flawed - if you are referring to a DI debate.
No criticism intended... just that it is not a position to debate to resolution...
What precisely do you find most irksome that you wish to address?
Is it something 'transient' like a particular politician, a movement like MAGA?
Or are you wanting to squelch the litany of this and that...
DI Debates are apparently not 'free' enough?"
Anyone can debate anytime here at DI... in fact most do it here all day long...
Are you desiring a "once and for all" outcome?
Who will administer the rules, who will stop you or anyone else from doing the same tired arguments with the same theatrics and 'partisan' garbage that is "anti-debate?"
We established the debate forum to provide an opportunity for an even playing field.
Debating American politics is like talking about a hockey game.... or any spectator 'sport'... WWE comes to mind.
If you're into that then you don't need the debate forum as far as I can tell. The mud pit and political threads are full of the same.... data....
I respect debate because it clear the field of bullshit purposefully inserted in to keep anyone from "understanding what this is all about."
Others think of it as a pulpit... they never win the debate... they ALWAYS claim a win.... activism is funny that way.
Debate is structured as it is to take away the crap so many desperately want to 'entertain' with...
It's not for pride, not for honor, not for your side, or mine, or theirs...
That is precisely what makes it a valuable exercise and tool for discerning reason.
The Debate ring is open... it never really closes...
Still...
Would that I could.... I actually need to have my butt kicked and you certainly can do it.
Maybe a mini demo debate.... 250 word limit - open- 3 volleys - close...
But who can say what judging such a thing could actually work? A point system? Some measure of exchanged content? The most "convincing" closing?.. but to whom?
I have only met a few debaters who would deny that losing brings a
greater sense of closure than winning.
And I never fail to learn something after I lose.
Yes, debate is high-yeilding dialogue....
exactly the kind some people just run from.
