Even worse, a SUV/MPV/people carrier type.

Urrgh... can't stand SUV's.

I think it was just an accident. From the footage it seemed like people were banging his car and trying to open the doors before the collisions occurred. Once the door was yanked open and slammed shut he seems to have hit the accelerator and lost control. Personally don’t think it was deliberate at all. However, if he was also under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time, that is another matter and certainly contributory.

When you accidentally injure 134 people.

Some very seriously, including children, with a Ford Galaxy.

That you happen to have driven down the wrong, closed-off road.

After tailgating an ambulance into a restricted area.

Questions need to be asked and somebody held to account.

He deliberately entered into a restricted area, and deliberately drove his vehicle into the crowd trying to escape.
"Yet so it is, we see the illiterate bulk of mankind that walk the high-road of plain common sense, and are governed by the dictates of nature, for the most part easy and undisturbed. To them nothing that is familiar appears unaccountable or difficult to comprehend."

If he's going the PTSD route then it will likely backfire as if his condition was that sever he should have surrendered his licence to DVLA or at least contacted them about it.

There is some possible mitigation as fans celebrating attacked his car when it was tailing the ambulance down closed roads as they understandably assumed it was a terror attack when he was refusing to turn back.

Hopefully he'll get the book thrown at him as he made a series of bad decisions leading up to the accident and only has himself to blame for injuring 100s of people./
