A friend sent me this picture of a vehicle behind them at a stop light, I was wondering if it could possibly be a mobile ham station?

I’m a weird ham radio guy and have been for almost 50 years, and I’ve been known to experiment with many different vehicle antenna setups, but that looks ludicrous.
It’s a stacked series of directional antennas for different bands. The longer the elements, the lower the frequency. Looks like a mix of VHF high band and UHF. The presence of so much coax makes me think those are real feedlines and working antennae.

Was it taken in tornado alley? Like Kansas or Iowa?
I vote homemade Tornado chaser truck.
I was gonna suggest mobile HAARP targeting arrays...
After a Google image search, Edmond, Oklahoma Reddit comments suggest Amateur HAM radio https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmond/comments...164th_and/

Probably one of a number of similarly equipped vehicles...
I suppose none of the drivers are answering any questions?

I’m not a 100 percent sure, a friend sent me those I was unaware of them being on Reddit already new to the site and saw the ham radio thread and thought I would ask. I knew they were some radio just with a little experience from a fire department but nothing more than making sure cables were still plugged in.
That OP image is over kill, also with antenna rotators LOL.
Looks like 33 cm, 70cm, 1.25m and 2m antennas... maybe 6m too. Whoever it may be... is probably a DX contester or just a crazy ham operator. ![]() Normally you wouldn't want your antennas so close like that because of mutual coupling... but hey if it works and looks cool. |
