The term "Roman" seems to correspond with his chronological spot in the prophecies of St. Malachy as explained in the OP.

these speculation are not how prophecy works it is never obvious until it is and the prophecy that can be deciphered before the fact is not true prophecy. which is quite handy for the grift industry, honestly. for example, the torah, she will rewrite herself again. and what pray tell is the use of knowing that? but it sure could make some money on youtube videos blathering about it.

Has it occurred to anyone that the position of Pope is also being the Bishop of Rome? Maybe he was referring to that, but it is slightly curious that he stated that.

They've all been Bishop of Rome.

The papacy is sometimes referred to as "The Chair of Peter."

In addition to St. Malachy and Nostradamus, there is another prophecy which may refer to this pope publicly identifying himself as Roman, although it clearly does not refer to His Excellency the Pope.

While the pope is also the Bishop of Rome, technically the seat of the Papacy has been the Vatican which is an independent nation.

The prophecy of Revelation Ch. 17 describes a woman riding a beast with seven heads.  The prophet goes on to say the seven heads are seven hills upon which the woman sits.  Rome is a city seated on seven hills.  The name written on the woman's forehead is "Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots, and of the Abominations of the Earth."

Some Protestants have always claimed Ch. 17 described the Pope but so far the events described in Ch. 17 and 18 have not come to pass.  Ch. 18 says "When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and seen the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her.  Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry:
Woe! Woe to you, great city,
you mighty city of Babylon!
In one hour your doom has come!"

So it can't simply refer to the papacy.  If it refers to the church, then it refers to the last pope.

The meaning may be large parts of the Church are replacing the Gospel of Salvation with a message of communism.

With lots of Norman Greenbaum Irony:

Norman Greenbaum's song is probably a deliberate effort by the mob to destroy proper devotion.

*Praying to the sky is not what we do.  The KJV and the Douay-Rheims Bibles both said "The kingdom of heaven is within you." in Luke 17:20-21.  Prayer is a bit like metta except the intention is to ask the Creator.

*It's not (primarily) about "when I die" or "I'm gonna go to the place that's the best."  Mark 10:29-30 says:
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.

i.e. it's about the now, not just the hereafter.  Even if you just do metta, the aspirations in the Seven Petitions of the Our Father are the ones you want.  If you wished evil on your enemies, it might return to you, for example.
