It took SG-1 until after Richard Dean Anderson left and Claudia Black couldn't save it before they got awesome laser weapons.

And I bring that show up because the older I get the more I think there was legitimate an US/Alien war over Antarctica at some point and the new laser may in fact be partly engineered by Grey aliens.
