Apparently the fourth estate has always been 'compromised' but I would say the year things went truly rotten was 1996.
Just like the Smith Mundt Act, lots of legal safeguards once put in place to protect the public have now been systematically dismantled (or just blatantly removed) and along with the elimination of the 'Fairness Act' and the 'perverse move' of giving media corporations 'free speech' rights then would say Clinton's 'Telecommunications Act' played a fundamental role as 'the rules of the airwaves were rewritten and all regulation thrown out'.
Bill Clinton was a Bilderberg member (along with Hillary) and apparently one of the first things he did in 1996 (other than selling secrets to China) was to pass the T.A.
