So, the story from today,

The CEO of insurance giant UnitedHealthcare was gunned down Wednesday morning outside a luxury Midtown hotel in what police called a “brazen, targeted attack” by a chillingly methodical killer who used a firearm with a silencer.
 
Brian Thompson, 50, was repeatedly shot by a masked gunman who had been lying in wait outside the Hilton hotel along Sixth Avenue, where the CEO was hosting an investors’ conference, said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

From the videos of the hit, it looks as if the shooter was an amateur, but then I think that was part of an act by a far more professional shooter. This reasoning came about due to this story that has been released.
Slain UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson was facing DOJ probe for insider trading: report

UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was one of several senior executives at the company under investigation by the Department of Justice when he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday.
 
Thompson — who was killed in what police called a targeted shooting outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown — exercised stock options and sold shares worth $15.1 million on Feb. 16, less than two weeks before news of the federal antitrust probe went public, according to a Crain’s New York Business report from April.
 
The stock price dropped sharply after the revelation that the DOJ was investigating whether the company had made acquisitions that consolidated its market position in violation of antitrust laws, a source familiar with the probe told the outlet.

It is both possible that Thompson had himself knocked off to protect others from being indicted. The health care racket is a very big and deadly business.
Though it could also be looked at that the others that were involved with insider trading had Thompson shot to prevent him from exposing the full size of this scam. 

This story smells of cover-up. 
Wife of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson says her husband had been receiving 'some threats' prior to fatal shooting

The wife of slain health insurance CEO Brian Thompson said Wednesday that her husband had been getting threats before he was gunned down in Midtown Manhattan.
“There had been some threats,” Paulette Thompson told NBC News in her first comments since her husband was murdered early Wednesday.

So he had warnings but made no allotments for security? Something's off about this story. I kind of wondered if maybe he faked his death in order to testify against others involved, but the more I think about it, maybe he committed suicide to protect his family, or the others he did this with had him killed. As of now there is too much still unknown and I'm sure that most of this story will not be told for questionable reasons.
