I am only gifted with the ability to do a fully 'physical' OBE from time to time. But part of my daily practise is 'basic hygienic rituals' like the LBRP and LBRH.
Before projecting I recommend a basic protection ritual like the above Lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram, and also I enjoy inner qi gong/chakra work/ breath work.
Intent is energy, and energy is controlled by mind, largely visualisation and focus/imagination.
If you are in a clean space, you don't need to worry about entities attaching to you.
Funnily enough, salt is very powerful. If you are paranoid you could make a physical circle of salt ,but I don't think it's necessary.
Again, it's whatever works for YOU. It's all about YOUR Inner and Outer space, no one else's.
I forgot to add, I like Monroe's technique I don't use all the time, but it involves creating a cycle of energy around you like a moving egg, which protects you. energy goes in through the feet, out through the sahasrara chakra at the crown of the head, like a fountain, envelops, and returns back down into the bottom of the feet.
