Man I hope the omens are wrong...

This particular eventuality is one I wish we could actually prepare for.  

But you can't be prepared for that magnitude of disaster.

Oar Fish have an uncanny rate of appearing before such things... I wonder if those long sleek bodies are more attuned to the precursors of seismic events.

Could be chemical in nature. Gasses coming up from some movement. A big current of electricity would probably also mix up some chemicals or just effect them directly.
