I wish that was the case, but those who served in Panama back in the day know better. That being said, when those type of people get noticed they usually get transferred before anything happens.
I'm sure a lot of political types wouldn't want US Marines providing protection for themselves since on average a Marine isn't going to "look the other way" or "ignore that incident". Most likely those types of politicians would vote for allowing private security which should come out the politician's pocket, but I'm sure they'll use taxpayer cash for it.
It's funny when you look at what we have and what we need. Like the CIA could be dumped and those jobs handed to the US Army Intelligence like how pre-WWII Army Signal Corps was the ones that handled all that CIA stuff. Same goes for the FBI. Dump them and beef up the US Marshal Service and allow local law enforcement to utilize the former FBI labs and State's AG office should be working cases between states.
Alot of wasted money and corruption could be cut by just dumping Departments that are more headaches than results.
