If it wasn't Secret Service agents, then wouldn't the Secret Service want to also know who is going around acting like them and causing issues like this? Instead, they can't come out and say that they had nothing to do with this.
It's like the Secret Service has no idea what they are doing to the point of not knowing if they broke laws, did their jobs, or even who is or isn't an agent. If this event and a failed assassination attempt has shown is that maybe an interservice purge should take place in the Secret Service, if not a complete cutting of the Department altogether. US Marines can expand their White House duties to full time guarding the President instead of the Secret Service, and the US Marshals can take over the investigation parts for the Treasury Department.
Thinking about it further, even if it wasn't a robbery, it was "breaking and entering" so it should be in a crime report.
I think the political appointments who 'set the tone and objectives' in the service... someone has some answering to do about what this was. No "hinting" - just answers.
For reasons I can't really get into without pissing someone off, I like your idea about the Marines and the US Marshals being better suited to the role of presidential security... except then every sad wanna-be politician and their retinues will demand it too... and that could get really ugly... because in theory, no Marine or Marshal is going to sell their soul for the benefit of some political party or club... would they? They can't be "bought and sold" so easily as so-called "partisans"... at least I would like to believe that.
