Lyrics that resonate with you
#1
Do any songs have lyrics within them that leave a deep impression or stand out for a particular reason?

For me it has to be Scottish band The Blue Nile and their track 'Regret'.  Its a very deep song and from what I understand its about someone out of sync with a space and time. Anyone who has suffered with clinical depression will understand the lyrics below.  They describe the landscape of depression.

Quote:Though I'm standing still
I'm in a moving place
The wilderness is quiet
The wilderness

.. an upbeat cynic

In the heart of darkness, shadows have their own secrets.
Where silence screams and the dead still dream...
You’re never alone when the night is alive.

Almost anything from John Prine for me. I’m sorry I don’t know how to post videos yet, but from”Sam Stone”,
“There’s a hole in daddy’s arm, where all the money goes…”, etc

And the whole song “Hello in there” just gets me every time.

The closing track to Quadrophenia.  I like your choice.

Haha I damn near wore the vinyl out back in the day. 5:15 was another banger that stays in my head.

Thanks Morrad!! You are awesome!

I have some eclectic tastes with music, and love something from almost every genre.
Of course classical music doesn’t have lyrics but I believe that the music itself has so much emotional value that lyrics would probably not add anything to it.
For example, Pachabel’s “Canon in D minor”, Einaudi’s “I Giorni”.

“War Pigs” by Black Sabbath certainly resonates today, as well as REM’s line from Half a world away”
The storm it came up strong,
It shook the trees, and blew away our fears…

I love music. And I’m constantly awestruck by the people who can put lyrics together that reach us so well.

When I was very young my grandfather would recite the poetry of Robert W Service to us in the evening. It resonates deeply today.

Enjoy it all my friends.

John Miles - Music Was My First Love.
I was going through some personal problems with my wife, and I heard this song and cried my eyes out. I then borrowed the album, took it home and played it for my wife, and she cried her eyes out. We have just cebrated our 45 wedding anniversary.
