Pine Gap

As we pass on the right hand side, we totally did not see [redacted]

Pine Gap has a lot of stories about it, stated as  a joint US/Australian facility, the reality is that its a US base and we aussies are the janitors.

Quote:Pine Gap is a satellite surveillance base and Australian Earth station approximately 18 km (11 mi) south-west of the town of Alice SpringsNorthern Territory. It is jointly operated by Australia and the United States, and since 1988 it has been officially called the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap (JDFPG); previously, it was known as Joint Defence Space Research Facility.[sup][1][/sup]

Strategically placed in the middle of the continent, its not just safe from invasion, its safe from nosey neighbors.

So what does the base do?. Some have claimed its where teams of drone operators work, others say its connected to a mega underground cave system. Both could be true.

The major advents of the digital age make it possible to do certain important things (such as surveillance, research, and operational controls) from anywhere.

I have no idea what they "do" there.  But it often seems more likely that it isn't anything more sinister than we see them doing anywhere else.  The enticing mystery is that we don't actually "know" what they do elsewhere.  It could be theater-specific, it could be global, either is possible.  And by the way, sometimes "janitors" know much more than you might think.

I'm keen on exploring the idea of a large underground facility... that idea seems to resonate with me.  I assume there must have been some kind of witnesses to that kind of thing.

I was browsing around and found this Youtube production about Pine Gap....

Mind you, this is YouTube... and some of the included clips and reporting are "journalistic" (which means hyperbolic and "entertaining") so the old saying "with a grain of salt" comes to mind.
