That's a pretty hefty editorial slant... especially considering that is not the "Vatican" position, but one of the interviewees' opinion...

But I get it... it bears weight as a 'header' for an article... Today's "journalism" truly sucks....

"THE NINTH CRUSADE" - Coming to a Theater Near You Soon!  (Bonus Double Feature with "WW3 - WTF???")

Screw the Pope!

The Pope needs to go sit down and stick to doing Pope stuff.

P.S. - As a matter of fact, there's a whole damn lot of people who need to go mind their own F'ing business and go back to what they're supposed to be doing (i.e. acting, singing, sports, etc., etc.)

Actually, it is the vatican position.
This is the official newspaper of the vatican.
Nothing gets printed in it that isn't approved of, and agreed to, by the vatican.
If it's in the paper like this, then it's what the vatican wants.
Catholics know this ... it's the mouthpiece of the vatican.
It may not have the tag line 'the vatican approves this' ... but it does.
That's how it works.

Aren't you confusing it with the l'Osservatore Romano?

Non-US country leaders will have their own opinions about the USA.
Unfailingly so.

The separation of church & state still applies tho. Hopefully Catholics will remember this old axiom. I am surprised this is the hill the Vatican decided to die on & not Soros, not human trafficking or any of the more concerning moral issues we're facing.

But then again the Vatican is the most viciously political group.
Backstabbing an climbing over the bodies by the Pope's underlings is a bloodsport.
Pope Francis may be the head of the Church but it's not beyond the pale he occasionally misses something his underlings schemed up.

Sure, but sometimes it gets too zealous to impersonate the Julio-Claudian Dynasty. Rome was a democracy for about 500 years. Then Octavian made Rome great again and it was autocratic dictators from then on.

Quote:Though the Roman Republic stood for several centuries, tensions within the government began to tear it apart. Civil wars started between groups with different loyalties, which brought about the transformation of the republic into an empire.

Pick your platitude. All roads leading to refusing to learn from history. Polarization has a point of no return.

Last time it was over owning people, this time it seems to be over transmigrants eating people's pets. And did you know Kamala Harris supports giving murder convicts sex changes? Every Trump ad in my state is transgender or migrant obsessed.

While I'm not saying Trump represents a Roman-esque turn to autocracy and dictatorship, he seems most likely to appoint a horse Secretary of the Interior. The agenda he's fighting (DEI, Globalism) is detested, and non of his most ardent supporters are likely to accept a scenario where he loses this time.

Plus 2026 is our semiquincentennial and...

Quote:According to most historical studies, the average lifespan of an empire is around 250 years
