What's a car brand you would NEVER buy - Raptured - 05-26-2024 piggy-backing off Putnam's glorious "what did you drive?" thread. I'm sure most of us have brands that we would never buy, except for the obvious (Yugo, AMC (lol) etc) Doesn't have to be current. This is meant to be humorous in nature. Have fun with it guys :-) Mine would be (and no offense to brand-loyalists). Nissan - I pay extra attention when around an Sentra, Altima or Versa. Worst drivers hands-down in my area) Infinity - see above + they come across as the most "entitled" drivers around my area. They own the road (but not the car. balls-deep in a lease) Chevy - Impala/Malibu = inner-city drivers with no insurance Jeep - I've been cut-off or nearly crashed by more than a few Grand Cherokees. Wranglers and the like are okay by me (except for the ducks. Grow up man...geesh) RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER guy - Maxmars - 05-26-2024 I have few entries into this list (with a proviso.) Proviso: I know that with a conscientious and diligently motivated car owner, almost any car can be considered "good," or at least "good enough." But the disappointments I encountered with 'pretty' cars that were all surface, and embarrassingly little engineering pride, was the PT Cruiser. Another entry is the "new" Volkswagen Bug design. The things I loved most about that car were all eliminated and replaced with metaphorical plastic. The "Marketing Department" should NEVER be involved in car design... EVER. Save that for AFTER it's designed and built. Also, I have found that even with cars that are (to me) wonders of design and function... those qualities can all become moot, it the driver is "bad." Confession: I liked cars before it became impossible for an owner to maintain... I'm old-fashioned that way. RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER guy - 727Sky - 05-27-2024 Never ever own a Chinese EV of any kind to include a bicycle. https://youtu.be/YMKpCiDomgM There are plenty of videos of cars and bikes blowing up during a battery fire RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER guy - 727Sky - 05-27-2024 Cars that will not make 60,000 miles RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER guy - 727Sky - 05-27-2024 RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER guy - Raptured - 09-04-2024 (05-27-2024, 03:51 AM)727Sky Wrote: [Video: https://youtu.be/WkU4Xv-nvmY] regarding that "worst SUVs of 2024" video, they should have added a a BMW X1 to that list. We had one as a rental for a week this summer (2024 model) and you couldn't pay me to drive one daily. Talk about crappy user experience. The instrumentation was all digital and I'm guessing they had some hack-shop in Bangalor do the design and programming. Words do not even begin to describe how distracting doing simple things like changing the AC temperature was. No knobs means you're staring at a screen that is not uniform in dialogs in any way. Driver preferences that get set do not get retained on the next session so simple things like "stopped-motion engine shutoff" need to be set each time you drive. My VW has a biutton to accomplish this. Connecting a phone to the system? About a 4 minute process. Android Aiuto? You have to dig through about 3 screens to find it. Again, no 2 screens use the same layout. I can't believe people pay what they pay to drive these cars. RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER buy - Lynyrd Skynyrd - 09-04-2024 Honestly, most newer cars are suspect, and I would research anything before buying. Any Nissan car with a CVT transmission is out. Most electric cars fail at about 60K miles and are not realistic to repair. RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER buy - CCoburn - 09-04-2024 The 'new' brand. I only buy used cars with maybe a 100k miles or so. I have like a handful of preferences – mainly performance and aesthetics. I recall the last time I was shopping and thinking that those pointed Camaro front ends are ugly, so I likely wouldn't buy one of those. I was leaning towards a 400HP BMW at one point but was hearing a little that maintenance was a bitch, and that particular car would've needed a little work, plus the guy selling it acted like he was hiding something because he kept dancing around inquiries. I didn't really care much for that brownish interior either. I think with me, it's more about what I will buy(with requirements satisfied), than "what I won't buy". This truly hurts my heart to say so, but you asked. I live in the Caribbean. Fords are constant loosers. YMMV. See what I did there? I drive a Honda. Hondas are good for hundreds of thousands of miles. Yes, there have been airbag issues. I wish I could depend upon American-manufactured cars and trucks. There was a time where American-made meant something special, and I truly hope -- and yes, even pray -- that time comes again. It's a matter of supporting the people who make the cars, and getting them the juice they need to make it work. In the meantime, I hope this last car I've bought will last the rest of my life. I doubt it. It's not a new car. It's a 2008 Honda CRV. I didn't want a white car, but that's what the muses of life presented to me, and the price was right. I really wanted a truck, but even used pickups are going for a ridiculous amount of money. Money for which I would build a small house. I have never bought a brand new car in my life. I will need to build a trailer to haul various things. I have seen so many Fords down here die prematurely. It ain't right. American made should shine. I hope for it to again shine in the future. RE: What's a car brand you would NEVER buy - Oldcarpy2 - 09-06-2024 Any SUV. Nissan Micra. Hey, Micra owners - why not attach a sparkler to your aerial? Let's face it, you drive the ******* things like dodgem cars.... |
