Andromeda - Backyard Mosaic - TrithFPV - 11-08-2024

Did a multi-panel mosaic of Andromeda last night. This was 1.5 hours of 10sec subs. Tried to edit out the satellite trails the best I could but there were so many. 

Still happy with the result!

Nice mosaic image. After looking up other pictures of Andromeda it looks like you also have a nice image of M110 too.

My favorite part of Andromeda is how it would look if we could actually see the entire galaxy unobstructed. And how much cooler the sky would be if this was actually how it appeared.

You are correct, both M32 (small yellow orb top center) and M110 (fuzzy blob low center) are a couple dwarf galaxy's that are orbiting Andromeda. 

Couple fun facts. 

Andromeda is bigger than our own Milkyway - it contains roughly 1 trillion stars - whereas the Milkyway contains roughly 400 billion. 
Andromeda and the Milkyway are in a collision course. In about 4 billion years, the Milkyway will merge with Andromeda. So anyone that plans to play Earthling again and again.. keep looking up. It should continue to get brighter and consume more of the sky the closer that date gets :P

I wish I was in rural Austrailia so I could see the Magellanic Clouds with the naked eye.

What, do the paintings on the skydome of the Sistine Chapel not appear in different orientations to you, depending on where you stand on the floor and the direction you're facing? And that makes the floor not flat?

And it's "their", not "they're". Case closed.

It's a perspective thing.

First thing, while I have never been to The Sistine Chapel, I'm pretty sure I can see the entire dome anywhere in the room. Just from a different angle. That would be pretty trippy architecture to be able hide parts of the painting from different sides of the room with a level surface. You'd need a convexed not a concaved ceiling.

That's a challenge. Create the convex flat earth model to incorporate hemispheric lines of site and orbital precession.

It can't be dome.


That is a weird show...

Second way its perspecive is Andromeda is only 42% larger, so relative in size to us. Both THEIR inhabitants are allowed to feel superior over others like a Magellanic Cloud or a Sagittarius Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy.

But there's also a list of galaxies at least 7 times bigger than the Milky Way.

We are the minority LOL Andromeda is 220,000 light years wide, we are roughly 100,000. Its gonna be one heck of a fireworks show in 4 billion years time. All that new star creation when the galactic gas/dust combine!

This is how it always goes, isn't it? Mention bias, and it all becomes a matter of "perspective", us and them, and if you ask why, it it's all about lambdas, planking, and cold dark matter models. Okay. I'm not even going to go there. So you like spinning balls, think that makes sense. But the model doesn't quite work, so we have to account for distorted space-time! Oh, but that doesn't quite work, so we have to account for dark matter! Oh, but that doesn't quite work, so the universe is now 30 billion years old instead of six! It just goes on and on.

I'm sure you can see the maze. And it's a fun maze, isn't it? I sort of like it too. But it doesn't prove anything. At the end of the day, it's only models, with infinite refinement. You may find it useful to carry a globe around in your car to navigate, but I find a flat folding map to be much more convenient and sensible.
