The Gardener Mulls

The gardener comes; the gardener goes
The season ebbs, and the season flows

The birds will sing the mornings' ring
as light to night everything dulls
while the gardener mulls...

As the gardener mulls
the spacing of his pride
obsessively compelled
compulsively tried

And pretty petunias all in a row
with precise allotments
from which to grow

The gardener mulls
to and fro
from here to there
he comes and goes

The seasons swing
yet the gardener mulls
with trembling hands
he still doth sow

And winters' dawn
cold rain then snow
of dismal days
that once did glow

To days gone by
and beauty nulled
overgrown the weeds
where a gardener
(once) mulled

Now that's living soil! Alive alive. In comes from heart and intention and -- mulling. The true mulch of healthy eating. Good one Cburn!

I remember porchsitting boozedrinking as a collage young kid, at a friends house in the neighrbood one day, and just watching watching this old guy across the street yard puttering, he was just like putter move something then he'd walk to the top of his driveway and stand akimbo lookin at it wander to the side get a new sightline on it and back to putter some more dunno what he was planning and i was all like "what's he building there?" noclue but now i totally totally get it lol. Mulling.

Excellent.

The ending sadly reminded me of a few gardens that are no more. I always smile seeing the older folk pottering around their gardens.

They often make it look easy, I suppose it's all that mulling around! Beer

RE: The Gardener Mulls - CCoburn - 10-10-2024

I got home early Tuesday evening and hit the forum for a bit like I usually do; wrote a small piece about my first computer and then decided I wanted to write something new.

At first I didn't have any clear plan as to what exactly, but I was thinking about one of F. Nietzsches' pieces earlier in the day and that I would like to write something similar to that.

I wrote a couple lines about ebbing and flowing and soon after that the rest began to take form. It was nearly done, but I decided to save it, and I ended up tweaking and proof reading later that night prior to posting.

The piece can either be taken literally or analogically in parts or as a whole (I recalled thinking as I was writing).

Thanks for all the comments.

Cheers

I am late to the party, sorry. Reading The Gardner Mulls reminded me of my late Pa. I will spare further details, but I felt emotional reading your work.
