I thanked her and told her don't call me, I'll call you (rather I won't call you). I’ve taught lessons for years and that’s never been a problem. I have large hands and it’s handy for playing octaves, that’s about it. RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - CCoburn - 04-26-2024 I play guitar, doesn't everybody? Although not so much since I took up driving and driveway mechanic as a hobby, and now there is some new proposal in Maine here where they want to take away our ability to work on/repair our own vehicles and we would be forced to take them to the dealership? It was already voted down a couple years ago, but they are being stubborn about it for some reason. I love the 70s, but with the internet and all I've played it to death. I also love all kinds of metal; my only requirement really is that it has some sort of melody to it - don't care much for melodiless music. I've even taken' a liking to some of the Dua Lipa they've been playing on the radio lately. What can I say? It's different, done well, and I suppose it's grown on me some with what exposure I've had to it. RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - Raptured - 04-26-2024 I own 3 guitars and can't play. (long, dumb story) I love all music except C/W and newish 'rap' I listen to music for the musical content. I don't care about lyrics (yes, I'm wierd) and to me, the vocal aspect is simply another instrument to add an additional layer to the sonic quality of the song. When I try to explain that to people I get weird responses sometimes so I simply say "If I cared what they were singing about, I'd read poetry. Do you listen to someone recite poetry for the harmony?" A dream has always been to learn guitar and thus far I've gotten as far as restringing one of my electrics, lol Total respect for all of you that play RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - VulcanWerks - 04-26-2024 I’ve played guitar, sax and oboe. Took some percussion classes but didn’t do anything in that realm beyond that. Recently bought a Numark table and intend to learn to produce EDM. Always been a big EDM fan and want to learn how they do it. Super technical stuff. Got my hands on some Oakenfold back in the late 1990s and never looked back. RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - Tecate - 04-29-2024 I had to look up what a Numark table was Vulcan! Awesome! I’m just an old hack with too many guitars n amps playing old Montrose, AC/DC, Stones etc. I play John Prine , roots and blues on my acoustics and just have fun annoying the pets and neighbours. Ha! I would presume most are that way except for not caring about the lyrics, and I would have to place vocal quality above lyrical content as well, but well written lyrics can definitely add another cool dimension to a musical composition. Also, if you don't appreciate the vocalist you probably aren't going to care much what they're singing about. RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - 727Sky - 08-20-2024 We won the talent show in the 5th grade with a song called Wild Weekend which was a top 40 hit and a 4 cord melody ( C Am F and G ) we had written and called Susan Pronounced Sue San?? I don't remember... It was just two guitars no sax so I did the back ground and Lynn did the lead on Wild Weekend... https://youtu.be/z49t7c5cRmk...We only had standard guitars yet we managed to borrow two tape recorders that we could stick the microphone in the tone holes of the guitars and the mikes would amplify the guitars enough so all could hear in the Gymnasium... Back then grades one through 12 all went to the same school house. I played Guitar, Saxophone, Clarinet, and on some songs played drums. I put myself through school playing with the Night Walkers, James Mobley and the Shades of Soul and finally Dewayne and the Benedettas Our Organ player ended up becoming a professor and Doctor of music..He taught music theory at Oklahoma University... Jim could blow base on his B3 organ foot pedals play trumpet and play organ all at the same time. He did most of our arrangements unless it was a top 40 song we were doing. I played with them until I went into the service in 6/68. Dewayne became a cop in Norman Oklahoma an passed away several years ago. Last time I saw Jim (18 years ago) he was still doing his professor thing at O.U. I would not trade my early life for anything as I was happy and lucky. Not that now is bad or anything as my luck still seems to be with me !! hahaha RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - argentus - 08-20-2024 (04-07-2024, 10:46 AM)Byrd Wrote: Learned flute in the band in school, so I also play recorder. If you can play those, you can also play banjo. If you understand chord structure of guitar/strings, then you can translate that to keyboards with just a little instruction. Your fingers even go in the same place mostly (at least the left hand, if you play guitar right-handed). RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - 85303 - 08-20-2024 Idk I'm really hung up on the reply no strings except guitar .. poorly Then goes on to say how much he loves piano Oh ya, guitar. I should have picked it up twenty years ago but I'm able to enjoy playing regardless of how poorly I do. I paid for yousician because the point is to enjoy playing something. The grind? Meh not for me. Twenty years ago I would have. Be sure to teach your kids music everyone RE: Do you play a musical instrument? - k0rn - 08-20-2024 I was drummer in a metal band. I miss having a place where I could play drums. It was very good exercise. Some people laugh at that, but try playing up tempo for an extended duration and then tell me I’m wrong. |
